Repurchase PSN content for Xperia Play

No account sync for new Sony phone.

Xperia Play owners will have to pay twice for any classic PSone titles they've already purchased for PlayStation 3 or PSP but want to enjoy on their new smartphone, Sony has confirmed.

The new device, officially unveiled over the weekend, will be compatible with a number of PSone classics through the PlayStation Store. However, according to Sony Ericsson UK boss Nathan Vautier, you won't be able to carry over any existing purchases.

He told Gamespot that users "will have to repurchase the games, so it's not totally integrated. "I think the exciting thing is that there are games which people are very, very aware of," he offered as justification.

Although the phone launches in Europe in April preloaded with an as yet unannounced selection of Sony classics, the ability to freely access PSone games will be added in later this year through the PlayStation Suite scheme detailed last month.

Of course, the games won't be entirely the same as they are on the current PlayStation Store. The PlayStation Suite will target all Android devices so titles will have to be tweaked to be compatible with touch screen devices.
