Dead Space iOS spin-off out now

Slick trailer shows portable dismemberment.

This week's Dead Space 2 not enough to fulfill your intergalactic space horror needs? Worry not, EA has your back. A mobile version of its action-packed nail-chewer hits the App Store today.

The portable offering, developed by EA's Dutch outpost rather than franchise standard bearers Visceral Games, promises a unique third person adventure rather than a crude shoe-horning of one of the full console games.

According to the game's App Store listing, it takes place three years after the events of the original, with you sent down into the Mines of Titan "on a mission of uncertain purpose".

There are six different environments to battle through, two exclusive weapons and "simple swipe and tap controls that offer accessibility without sacrificing depth." The trailer below should give you a better idea of what lies in wait.

The game will set you back £2.99 on the iPhone or £5.99 for the shiny HD iPad version.

EA is also promising an exclusive unlock for its big brother, Dead Space 2, if you register your iOS purchase. Speaking of which, Visceral's sequel is due this Friday on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Eurogamer's Simon Parkin just slapped an "exemplary" 9/10 on it.
