Inazuma Eleven heading to Europe

Nintendo to publish Level-5's footie RPG.

Curious Japan-only football/RPG hybrid Inazuma Eleven is to make its European debut next year on the DS.

According to a listing on Nintendo's Norwegian site, the title will launch in the country on 28th January.

A spokesperson for Nintendo told Eurogamer that a UK release is planned too, but not until after a cartoon series based on the franchise launches.

Developed by Dragon Quest IX/Professor Layton studio Level-5, Inazuma Eleven first launched in Japan in 2008, spawning a hugely successful franchise.

The latest game in the series, Inazuma Eleven 3, sold more than half a million copies in its first three days on sale in the country earlier this year.

It looks like this is the first fruit of Nintendo's mooted plan to feed the DS market previously Japan-only titles, so as not to take development resources away from its new 3DS handheld.

Take a look at the bonkers-but-rather-awesome Japanese trailer below for a better idea of what to expect from the title.
