MS: No, Kinect hasn't been hacked

Drivers up the wall.

Microsoft's denied that motion-sensing add-on Kinect's been hacked.

All that's happened is someone's created drivers that allow other devices to interface with the sensor, out midnight tonight, Microsoft claimed.

Gizmodo reported over the weekend that Kinect had been hacked, or rather reverse-engineered, with the motion-sensing hardware operating on an ordinary PC.

Digital Foundry took a look at the videos doing the rounds and concluded that "the chances are this is very much the real deal".

In a statement issued to Gamespot, however, Microsoft denied the claim.

"Kinect for Xbox 360 has not been hacked - in any way- as the software and hardware that are part of Kinect for Xbox 360 have not been modified," said the console manufacturer.

"What has happened is someone has created drivers that allow other devices to interface with the Kinect for Xbox 360. The creation of these drivers, and the use of Kinect for Xbox 360 with other devices, is unsupported.

"We strongly encourage customers to use Kinect for Xbox 360 with their Xbox 360 to get the best experience possible."
