Xbox HD remakes unlikely

MS pours cold water on HD Halo rumour.

HD remakes of classic Xbox games look unlikely after Microsoft Game Studios expressed ambivalence to the idea.

Last week the internet bulged with a rumour that a HD remake of Bungie's Halo: Combat Evolved was in the works.

That now looks doubtful.

"I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea," Microsoft Game Studios Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer told IGN. "I'm going to think about it from the customer's perspective, and are we really delivering something of value to the customer at a price that they want?

"We obviously have a lot of new things going on, so the thought of re-doing a bunch of things is probably difficult to just weave into the overall portfolio.

"If you can provide real value to the customer, there could be possibilities for that, but I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it."

While Microsoft remains sceptical of the HD remake, Sony has embraced it with open arms.

A PS2 God of War Collection was released to critical acclaim in November, and Sly Cooper and Team Ico Collections are incoming.

Then there's Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil HD and EU PS3 exclusive Prince of Persia Trilogy.
