Killzone developers start new studio

Vanguard Entertainment to work on new IP.

Two of the co-founders of Killzone developer Guerrilla Games have set up a new studio.

Martin de Ronde and Michiel Mol's new company, called Vanguard Entertainment Group, will combine de Ronde's online games setup, Kamari, with Mol's W! Games – the studio responsible for first rate XBLA/PSN strategy title Greed Corps.

Vanguard will focus on online-enabled titles for consoles and other "premium platforms".

"Over the past few years, we have been closely following the rapid rise of social network games, browser-based games and new online business models associated with these platforms," de Ronde told Edge. "We also see that the market for console games forms the heart of our industry still in terms of revenue and state of the art production values.

"We feel both these market segments will be rapidly converging over the coming years, rather than competing with each other, and with Vanguard we want to be at the forefront of this development."

Mol and de Ronde sold the Killzone studio to Sony back in 1996. Guerrilla Games still works on the franchise and is set to release Killzone 3 in February 2011. Eurogamer's Dan Pearson pulled on his jet pack and snow shoes for a hands-on back in May.

Vanguard's first projects will be announced soon.
