Jak II properly unveiled

You've seen the shots, now read what it's vaguely about

Although you've been admiring the first screenshots of Jak & Daxter II for a couple of days now, SCEA only confirmed Naughty Dog's latest title in writing while we were asleep.

Jak II, as the game is set to be known, is a similar story-driven platformer to its predecessor, but like Insomniac's Ratchet & Clank, this time Jak is armed with a veritable arsenal of projectile weapons.

The new engine is an upgrade to Insomniac's R&C base boasting triple the amount of polygons per character. R&C was of course developed in conjunction with the original Jak & Daxter engine, so the relationship between the two companies once again pays dividends here.

Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin said "Jak II will push the PlayStation 2 to new levels, adding visual impact and detail to both the environments and the characters. With the addition of multiple weapons that can be employed at any time, and numerous power-ups available to the player in every game location, Jak II provides far more freedom and immersion than gamers have experienced before."

Jak II will probably be released in September or October according to Sony, and we've read reports that this is a worldwide date.
