Vivendi snaps up Hunter licence

No no, they're not just subscribing to PSO…

Interplay has sold off the rights to the Hunter: The Reckoning licence. According to reports, Vivendi is now in charge of publishing rights to the game (based on the White Wolf paper and dice role-playing titles). Interplay cited financial strategy - in other words, they need the money. "Our focus has been on improving our balance sheet and steering the company toward highly profitable content," Interplay Chairman/CEO Herve Caen said in a statement.

Although some will no doubt wonder if this is a good thing, we're over the bloody moon. This means that starting with Hunter: The Reckoning Redeemer on PS2, due out in the US this October, Vivendi will be releasing Hunter titles and not Interplay. The point being that Interplay arguably couldn't release the contents of its own bowels around here these days, and although Vivendi isn't exactly watertight, they do at least get stuff onto store shelves and strewn across our desks. And any move which leads to more Hunter games making it out the door should be applauded.
