Pre-release patch for Splinter Cell PC

This one does whoknowswhat, but the next one will add anti-aliasing!

Splinter Cell is due out on the PC on February 28th, but it's already on the streets in the US and Ubi Soft is planning to release a patch for it today. We don't know exactly what the patch deals with, but 3D programmer Dany Lepage told the Ubi Soft forums that the next patch will probably add anti-aliasing support…

"AA won't be supported in Splinter Cell - PC until either we come out with Patch #2 (Patch #1 will be available at launch tomorrow) or if NVidia/ATI are able to find a way to allocate all our render targets multisample in their next driver revision (NV 43.0 may be able to do so)," he said.

However, one gamer pointed out that a patch on release day is a bit daft, and Dany continued. "In a perfect world, we would be able to ship perfect product exactly on time. However, in the real world, things don't work out that way." So who do we shout at, Dany? It's all about the shouting!

While Dany points out that although "you can play the game without the patch" (oh good), "the first patch will make the game look better, fix some corner case AI bugs and also give you faster FPS," adding that "we made the conscious decision of saving two weeks of time to market and give the same experience, thanks to the patch, to every gamer. I would make this decision anytime. It's all about efficiency. Getting the game sooner to the market is good for the players and good for the company. In the end, what matters is that you can play a finished version of the game." Right.
