Free game for new Cube owners

Seven first party titles to choose from

New GameCube owners will get to choose from one of seven free Nintendo games the company announced today - but for a "limited time only".

With the GameCube lagging behind the PS2 and Xbox, it was obvious Nintendo had to do something to pep up sales, and the new initiative will see "participating retailers" offering consumers the choice of either Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Disney's Magical Mirror, Doshin The Giant, Luigi's Mansion, NBA Courtside 2002, or the lovely Pikmin if they part with £129 (199 Euros) for the dinky console.

Sadly, the Japanese giant neglected to really go for it and offer Mario Sunshine as part of the deal. Oh well.

The deal kicks off next Monday (3rd February) and will run until March 20th, "while supplies last". But don't worry too much if you miss that date, because the console has yet to receive a price cut - and you can bet your life savings that the Cube will be reduced to under £100 shortly after this offer runs out.

Still, it's nice to see the Big N finally getting into the spirit of the console war.
