Animal Crossing welcomes... Hello Kitty

Litter yourself with amiibo cards.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf has opened its gates to Japan's most famous cat: Hello Kitty.

Sadly, the upcoming range of Hello Kitty-branded Animal Crossing amiibo cards do not let the eponymous puss move into your town.

No - you'll have to make do with Hello Kitty-branded clothing and furniture instead.

Also in the packs are items starring other characters from Hello Kitty parent company Sanrio such as Kero Kero Keroppi (a frog), Cinnamoroll (a puppy) and Pompompurin (a dog in a beret).

It seems unlikely these card packs will be available outside Japan.

A fresh wave of Animal Crossing amiibo cards is on the way to Europe, however, alongside the major Animal Crossing: New Leaf update due this autumn.

Scan the upcoming series of NFC cards and you'll get all-new animals visiting your town. The game will also become compatible with the already-released Animal Crossing amiibo figures, although we don't yet know what they'll do.

We're due to hear more about the update in a special Animal Crossing Nintendo Direct, due around November time. It's likely we'll also hear about Nintendo's upcoming Animal Crossing mobile game then as well.
