3DS has sold five million units in the US
Ocarina 3D hits the one million mark.
The 3DS has recently hit the five million units sold milestone in the US, Nintendo has announced.
This figure comes courtesy of the NPD group's most recent report.
It sounds like an impressive figure - and it is - but it's not as sterling when one considers that it had already hit the 4.5 million mark four months ago. Nintendo even admitted that its 3DS sales have recently dwindled in the West.
Comparatively, UK 3DS sales were at just under a million less than two months ago.
It's not all bad news, as Nintendo's dominance over the handheld market remains with a 75 per cent market share for portable hardware in the US.
Elsewhere, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D became the third 3DS title to sell more than a million units. Whereas Super Mario 3D Land has sold 2.1 million units to date and Mario Kart 7 is at 1.75 million.
Things may be slowing down during the early summer slump, but the Kyoto-based company has a lot to look forward to with the 3DS XL launching on 19th August in the US, and 28th July in Europe. New Super Mario Bros 2's release will coincide with the new console's launch in the US, whereas it comes out on 17th August in Europe.
