    Eh, I think the game has a big chance of flopping commercially. Console gamers prefer realistic FPS games and PC gamers are unlikely to leave Team Fortress 2 for this.
  • coolbritannia #2 1 year ago

    Must admit, I want to see some review scores for this.
  • thegogsunit #3 1 year ago

    Reminds me of Borderlands, that was a great looking game. Think it could go either way though might be 8 or a 9 but could easily be crap.

    Ive preordered this anyway. Looks great to me

    lookin forward to this game, 1st day for me
  • Olemak #5 1 year ago

    Sort of in a holding pattern - will wait for reviews, but unless this is a complete bomb I will get it. Also interested in how good the console versions are compared to the PC version; I hope the reviewer puts a little emphasis on that aspect in the review, or that we'll have a DF face-off shortly after the review, preferably on release day.
  • Deckard1 #6 1 year ago

    Think this is going to struggle unfortunately.
  • enfilade #7 1 year ago

    @Deckard

    Are you kidding? The pre-orders for this game have been phenomenal. I've heard figures of as much as 200,000 on the consoles alone. The marketing's been great, from where I'm standing there's an incredible buzz around this game, considering it's a brand new IP. I could see it doing as well as Portal 2, if not considerably better.

    Some sceptics about, so: http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showp...

    enfilade, I want it to be brilliant and do well, I'll be buying day one regardless, but I think you're way over estimating its impact.
  • enfilade #9 1 year ago

    Well, in fairness it is unlikely to do as well as, say, Homefront, but I think it should be a fairly safe bet sales-wise so long as the reviews are averaging in the 80s on meta-critic. Which I'm certainly hoping they will (and am anticipating... talk about setting myself up for a fall.) I just don't want people to completely lose faith in the buying public's tastes ;)

    Anyway, guess we'll find out in a month's time!
  • dean0null #10 1 year ago

    I've not heard one negative preview for this game and I've read at least two dozen. I'm thinking this will get a 9.

    "I could see it doing as well as Portal 2, if not considerably better."

    lol what!!!!????

    I think you need to play the game first before making such comments...
  • Vortex808 #12 1 year ago

    It just looks brilliant every time I see some of it. I really hope it does well- if it's as good as I hope it will be!
  • coolbritannia #13 1 year ago

    enfilade, it's out next friday dude. reviews should hit tuesday for the US release. good times!
  • mcreddie #14 1 year ago

    This could be Shadowrun all over again. (and I quite enjoyed that game!)
  • jumpdeveraux #15 1 year ago

    Any word of a multiplayer demo yet ???

    If this was 16v16 I'd buy it day one but I still get a bad feeling of joining a team of randoms in a small team of 8 - it looks like there are so many benefits to good teamwork that a couple of useless muppets in your team will result in you getting pwned. Even one person going for kills and not objectives represents a high proportion of your available manpower not working towards progress.

    (I imagine clan vs. clan would be superb in 8v8 especially with voice comms)
  • SleepyDeathFred #16 1 year ago

    They've apparently spent the last year balancing it, so it's hard to see what could go wrong now.
  • Burnt-Kona Verified Senior Artist, Full Fat Productions #17 1 year ago

    Got my pre-order in, as do nearly a dozen on my friends list who got quickly bored of Homefront and now looking for something a little different.

    I loved Shadowrun, too.

    Hoping that there is a weighting of xp towards objectives over kills to help promote some teamplay amongst teams of randoms.
  • DefendoCroc #18 1 year ago

    They really should have gone for dedicated servers on the consoles though :(

    @DefendoCroc

    Exactly, no console dedicated server= Fail!
  • CaptainKid #21 1 year ago

    Hmmm. Waiting for reviews and more importantly player feedback before buying this game.
    Looks like the game is heavily based on teamwork which is nice in theory.
    In practice, your team will be filled with people who don't give a rat's ass about objectives.

    "Use this information to choose your class wisely"
    I predict a lot of frustration when no one wants to play a certain class..
  • Arsecake_Baker #22 1 year ago

    Oh and EG, what would be nice in the review is an indepth description of how well this plays online (console), lag, collision detection, host migration etc, as was previously stated somewhere, all the innovation in the world will lead to naught if the netcode is bollocks!

    /looks and Crysis 2 and sighs!

    Not looking as good as I expected from earlier footage. Think it will have to get 8s at least to get me interested again. If it has bots, that would be a bonus as well.
  • TheEarlOfZinger #25 1 year ago

    Can somebody explain the single player campaign to me?

    Do I HAVE to play through it with people online or can I do it on my own......does it even exist? I'm confused, help!
  • elrasho #26 1 year ago

    Why does this remined me so much of Timesplitters?
  • joelstinton #27 1 year ago

    @earl of zinger

    this is what i found on the brink forums.

    There are 3 ways to play.
    Singleplayer: You alone vs bots
    Co-Op: You and friends against bots
    Multiplayer: You with and against other players

    There are 3 game modes
    Campaign: When you win you go to the next part of the story, when you lose you restart that level again. You can play campaign online if you choose. In this case the same rules still apply.

    Freeplay: It's like your basic multiplayer FPS. Wether you win or lose you go to the next map and don't have to go in order or deal with cutscenes like Campaign.

    Stopwatch: You try to complete all objectives with a faster time than your enemy.

    The entire game is attackers vs defenders type gameplay. There are no game modes such as TDM or domination. BUT all game modes have multiple challenges for you to complete which makes it feel like you are playing other game modes. You can capture command posts(Domination), Soldiers can place explosives to get further in the level(Sabotage) and there might be a game mode where you have to capture intel from the enemy(CTF) but I'm not sure.

    hope that helps.
  • azazel76 #28 1 year ago

    this game looks like it won't appeal to the COD screaming teen generation as teamwork to them isn't quite as fun as going a 37 killstreak to use a dearthstar perk that destroys everything (apart from buildings n wooden sheds) and gets them a 25th prestige logo after 13 mins and 31 seconds playtime.

    Hoping this game is where the older pipe smoking gamer sits in the lobby with cutting topical putdowns rather than the spoty teens usual response of i've fucked your mom or I'm gonna fucking come round your house and stab you
  • TheEarlOfZinger #29 1 year ago

  • coolbritannia #30 1 year ago

    Gromit, it's al about bots, they'll drop in and out to keep the teams balanced. Single player is just multiplayer but against bots.
  • psychokitten #31 1 year ago

    Getting pretty excited about this all of a sudden! Looking for something new to play online :)
  • Matt_B #32 1 year ago

    I like the female voice over - nice and clear. I hope she is used for the in game tuition. Infinitely better than having a cliche Marine/drill Sergent shouting at you.

  • dean0null #33 1 year ago

    Could you imagine 32 players or 16 vs 16 team objective going against one or two main objectives at a time? It would be a cluster-fuck. If it was designed differently I could see the possibility, but the way the game is 8 vs 8 is perfect.
  • enfilade #34 1 year ago

    @Moonprince

    Predicting sales for a game has nothing to do with passing judgement on the quality of the game. I can predict that the next Call of Duty game will sell millions of copies. I don't have to play the game for that prediction to have some clout, because I'm basing it on - say - the series' reputation, the inevitably huge sums of money spent on marketing and PR, etc. etc. With Brink, I'm basing it on Splash Damage's reputation, the large amount of marketing and industry buzz the game is receiving, and the fact that with more than a week to release it has secured more than 220,000 pre-orders on the consoles alone. That said, I can just as easily see it not doing as well as Portal 2 if the game turns out to be not so great.

    @coolbritannia

    Way ahead of you on that score mate, I even pre-ordered from Game (contradicting all my natural instincts to go for Amazon or Zavvi) to get the sweet looking bonuses. Here's hoping for a Thursday delivery... I was just using a month as a barometer to gauge the total sales. Otherwise, I'm counting down the days (and keeping my fingers crossed that Sony pull their fingers out.)

    I prefer my FPS titles to focus on single-player rather than multi-player so I am giving this a pass. Shame, 'cause the graphics are nice, as is the parkour.
