    Cliched boring sci-fi action game.

Just what i love to play...

    Cant Wait..!
  • Gurrah #4 6 years ago

Errr did I just watch 4 minutes of a heavyly armored guy walking in circles inside a dried out fountain, shooting at baddies the world has seen before... yes, CliffyB, I think you should go back to college and do some more homework - I advise you to sign up for ~400 hours of Innovation and Gameplay.
  • mash the x button #5 6 years ago

    Yep, that's what you saw!
    Awful.

    Cliched boring sci-fi action game.
  • darshannon #7 6 years ago

Ok... and where is all the color?
  • haowan #8 6 years ago

Same place as the gameplay, and the interesting script, and the story and the decent characters and actors to voice them.

Or it could be a flashback, seeing as there are other sections in full colour.

Or maybe they're trying to get one-up on Resistance: Fall Of Man, to claim the Greyest Game Of The Next Generation award?
  • Triggerhappytel #9 6 years ago

Sure, it looks great, but I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about with this game. Without good AI or level design it will be nothing. Nothing!

If you want a third-person shooter for the 360, Lost Planet is looking a lot better IMO.

    Ummmm.

    Again. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

The video is so bad in quality that I can't comment on the engine, however the animations looks pretty good... gameplay looks like an arcadeyfied Ghost Recon 3, sharing with it the same kind of perspective, the sticking walls, the weapon selection...

All in all, I'm perplexed. I guess it will be good, maybe very good, in the end, but hardly a must buy at all costs. Lost planet got me much more excited...
  • mazzl #11 6 years ago

    "best looking game this year"??
what! this video looks awfull, the gameplay looks samo samo,
chainsaw.. witch game did that came from again (unreal or doom?)

there needs to be a new and a lot better video or, this game is just not so special

  • Darkedge #12 6 years ago

gameplay looks great, love the greande mechanic.

But god CliffyB is a tit. Oh and really wish that was better quality footage.
  • sharpkiddie Verified Lead Developer, Eurogamer Network #13 6 years ago

The poor vid quality and slight lack of colour are because this is a recording of a projected video at the event. Trust me, it looked a lot worse before we messed about trying to sort out the contrast :)
  • jack_klugman #14 6 years ago

Enemy units spawning out of the ground for the lose :(
  • asphaltcowboy #15 6 years ago

love it! can't wait to play it!
  • Moonprince #16 6 years ago

Thought the nade throwing was pretty poor myself :/
  • asphaltcowboy #17 6 years ago

yeah the quality of the vid is awful - get it from IGN or somewhere...
  • T4RG4 #18 6 years ago

Jesus, it's all been done before! One of these days I'm gonna make a game where the characters actually LOOK like they are aware of their surroundings. Gonna steer clear of this yawnfest, but with hype we all know it'll sell.

For some reason the one liners of the main character and his buddies remind me a lot of Duke Nukem.
  • Xerx3s #22 6 years ago

Wow, it looks good and implements new FPS elements and still doesn't reach 50 GB. But then again, instead of watching this clichéd sifi shooter, we could watch R:FoM. At least that has a dramatic name...

    ¬_¬
  • haowan #23 6 years ago

Or we could play something interesting instead. Let's push things forward.
  • GitSomE_UK #24 6 years ago

    "Wassup Guys"

CliffyB you are the reason why designers should stay locked in rooms and not presented to the public.

    Tit extrordinaire

    As for the game... ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  • morriss #25 6 years ago

I know what, why don't we all stop being so fucking cynical and wait and see if the game is acually 'fun to play'? You never know, you might actually enjoy, even if i does go aganst some weird set of 'gaming principles'.

    Losers.

    :)
  • Royal Fool #26 6 years ago

Pretty damn boring if you ask me. Same butt-ugly enemies, same exact "engage in shootout, lob grenades, take cover" gameplay as we've seen every single time for this game. That could be alright if it's presented in a varied manner, but GoW doesn't seem to have any other redeemable qualities about it other than the graphics (which are mostly dull and gray throughout).

I honestly don't understand why everyone is so hyped about it. It's actually kinda sad that this game has such an awesome engine powering it, the artists and modellers are great and the backstory for the world is actually thought out a bit... and this is what they manage to produce.

    Personally, I'm blaming Mr. Blezinsky.
  • belziah #27 6 years ago

this is the best looking tech demo I've seen.

from what I've seen in last years vids some of the puzzles look great fun but the general gameplay seems as dull as Sony's e306 press conference

  • RatBastard #28 6 years ago

What a c#nt CliffyB is. Apart from his out of this world Bri-merican accent, Peter Moore is likeable at least.
  • Azazel #29 6 years ago

AAaaaaaaah! It's Chris Martin! Run! Run for your lives!
  • projectmayhem #30 6 years ago

gears does look good, but best of the year? resistence would give this a good run for its money. granted, i wont be touching it for 5 months, and by then i may have forgotten about resistence... much like gears (most likely)

i'm still waiting for microsoft to admit they really just made a halo box :)
  • Les #31 6 years ago

The video is so poor that it's hard to judge the quality of the graphics but I'm sure it'll look less grey in reality. Gameplay seems a bit like a combination between MGS (the walking and hiding parts) and UT (the FPS shooting parts) which is good IMO. The character models for the troopers are ugly, but so were those for UT2004 (probably an Epic thing) and it didn't stop me from enjoying it.
  • mankell #32 6 years ago

The more we see the worse it gets.
  • Hughes. #33 6 years ago

This generation's Killzone? (The actual Killzone, not the fantasy CGI fest of E3 '05) Months and months of tasty looking screenies and a very short generic shooter when we actually get our hands on it. I suspect it will actually be a fun blast through, and the AI does look better than it has in previous outings, but unless the online multiplayer rocks le socks, this could be the most traded in game of all time by January.

    Lost Planet FTW!
  • Artemis_Matsas #34 6 years ago

That guy, CliffyB, is a total turd.

As for the demo, i think that they chose the worst part of that level to show off.
What? going around in a circular pit shooting enemies??? Yeah right. Carnival 3D.
C'mon guys, show us something more substantial and groundbreaking.
  • Lex_Luthor #35 6 years ago

    "Lost Planet FTW!"

Here fucking here! Can't come out fast enough.
  • bauhaus #36 6 years ago

I`ve been gagging for this game, nay Frothing.

But what I just saw, er.... Hmmmm

    First doubt!
  • Xerx3s #37 6 years ago

I honestly don't get what ppl see in LP. Played the demo and I was bored after a couple of mins.

As for this, I guess that it is a solid 7 or 8. Hardly the best game ever, but good nuff to have some fun and without doubt one of the better SciFi shooter this xmas (whether that says more about the genre in general is another discussion though ;p). The MP also looks like fun.
  • manic_mouse #38 6 years ago

You could all pull a better game out of your arse, right?

How about waiting until the game is out, and people have played it, before ripping into it for being "yet another cliched sci-fi shooter".

The graphics and animation look ace, while the gameplay isn't that of a stereotypical run and gun/mindless shooter. I'm looking forward to this.
  • asphaltcowboy #39 6 years ago

I'd like to reconfirm that the colours are AWFUL in that video feed. The proper video feed looks MUCH better/more colourful. I still think it looks great. A really solid game. Co-op and/or multiplayer will be great too!
  • kangarootoo #40 6 years ago

CliffyB? I hope that is his XBLive, rather than just his nickname. Its still cheesy but at least there would be some reason behind it.

Also, if I'm being a pedant I don't like the way he announced himself as "the designer". His title is lead designer, i.e. he manages the design team. A project of that size cannot have just one designer so its frankly a bit rude for him to introduce himself that way (a minor point, but thats me in a nutshell I guess).

"Ok... and where is all the color"

I was wondering that. I assume that was just a video quality issue and the game doesn't actually look like that.

Its hard to tell from a video, but it looked rather good in places. The aiming seemed quite accurrate (even a skilled demonstrator can't usually hide the twitchyness of a poor aiming system. The "running around the pillar and standing awkwardly next to an enemy" bit looked a bit daft, but that is the kind of thing you might hope would get ironed out (or might simply not happen that often).

Everything happened at quite a distance, plus with the poor video quality, it was hard to get a good handle on how the enemies were behaving. I.e. whether they seemed to be reacting to the player actions or whether they were just running about a lot and taking set cover points regardless.

Not sure about the grenade throwing. Looks very nice, but it seemed to take a long time and I like my grenades to be quick "halo style" so they be used as part of a whole toolset rather than a mechanism of their own (any game that still requires me to select a grenade as a primary weapon before use needs a slap, though that doesn't looke the case here thankfully).

I like my FPS games, but the setting and character style of this one does nothing for me at all. If the game mechanics are good it will probably be on my buy list, but big armoured hard men with Duke Nukem quips bore me to death I'm afraid to say. Still hoping for good things from this though, especially the co-op angle.
  • haowan #41 6 years ago

At least Duke Nukem is trying to be funny. This game seems as if it's had Personality Liposuction.
  • haowan #42 6 years ago

    Much like 'CliffyB', actually.
  • kangarootoo #43 6 years ago

I am sensing you don't like him :)
  • haowan #44 6 years ago

I prefer him to David Jaffe :)

I'll stop with the retarded GoW hate now anyway, it's getting tiresome even for me.
  • #45 6 years ago

haowan get a grip. You really think this game is taking itself seriously? With that gameplay/over-steriotyped bad/good guys over-the-top-totally gunfight dynamic?

Personally I think it looked well good fun to blast through, and doing that all with a mate over Live - sounds pretty good to me.

Liked the art direction, thought the run/gun dynamic looked solid, as did the animation. Certainly the environments looked a bit washed-out, but no less immersive for it.

But a lot of people seem to be putting the cart before the horse on this one. Perhaps an HD version on XBLA would be good!

For all those who didn't think CliffyB isn't a turd, check out [link url=http://www.cliffyb.com.]http://www.cliffyb.com.[/link] Marvel at his total turd-ness. He truly is a moron.
  • iconsam #49 6 years ago

But seriously, that's Epic. They don't have anyone breakingly creative in their offices at all. All they do is try to regurgitate everything that's already out there and expect us to be wowed by it. The gameplay really didn't look at that fun to me at all.
  • foxy2006 #50 6 years ago

  • Skywise #51 6 years ago

I thought the graphics would have been the only good thing about it but I found myself disliking the look of the game :p

They might not be the gameplay-kings, but their games are often solid and they can certainly do pretty graphics. Their art-style isn't exactly my cup of tea, but I enjoyed the original Unreal (didn't like the single player, but loved the death match with bots) and UT2004 was also nice and uncomplicated fun.

I have to agree that their games are solid. But what I was saying that they're not really originators. Just rehashers. For example, to me, Unreal and UT was an answer to id's Quake series.
