Ok Blizz I understand where the tone and content of the video is coming from, but jeez guys it's just not that impressive.

Plus, Lord of Change at the end of the WAR intro movie was much more badass than Sapphiron in this, even though I love Sapphiron.

    1:55 - It's Ice Age and he's The Squirrel! :D

Anyone else got the same impression?

This is pants compared to the new Warhammer Online cinematic. The crown of CG intro's has finally been passed on.
  • rudedudejude #4 4 years ago

Yep this does suck. You'd think with the fact that they make about 10 billion per month they could have done something better than this.

I thought the old speech of the father of Arthas in contrast to reality was a pretty cool idea. Guess some of you like more generic fantasy combat ;)
  • loopy #6 4 years ago

I enjoyed it. At least this attempts to give a hint about the back story to the expansion.

The WAR one was just the usual bunch of random classes/races bashing each other over the head with weapons/spells for no apparent reason from what I could see.

  • stevetuck #8 4 years ago

so its basicly Lord of Change vs Sindragosa for the best opening cinematic? :D

I'm not a huge WoW fan, in fact I kinda hate how it has unofficially molded the MMORPG market. It certainly is not the flawless jewel that most people believe it to be. That being said, this is a much better introduction than the WAR intro. It really sets the tone and atmosphere for the expansion and is a much better story telling tool than the generic "blow things up" style of the WAR intro, not to mention WoW already has 2 of those.

On a technical and artistic level, this again far exceeds the WAR intro, in my opinion. There may not be a lot going on but what is there is extremely well rendered and animated.

Don't get me wrong, the WAR intro is really nice too but it's a case of seen it all before. Apart from a couple of "cool" moments it's so generic an intro it's hard for me to get excited about it or the game it's meant to promote.

Awesome. In style of the Warcraft III movies.

I quit WoW before TBC came out and I want to keep it that way, but this kind of makes me want to play again.
  • Hamflank #11 4 years ago

This is just plain fantastic. Both artistically and story wise.

What Dizzy and login said holds much truth, if you prefer some random characters having a brawl, go see the WAR trailer.

Although I do think this has more impact if you have completed the WarCraft III campaign.

And the nice thing is the quests in WotLK are much more tied into ongoing storylines and lore. Rumours abound about Orgrimmar and Stormwind being razed...
  • Lemming81 #13 4 years ago

that video was so far up it's own Blizzardy arse.

    So he's Darth Vader then?
  • Gl3n #14 4 years ago

Good trailer, he's a bit of a darth vader isn't he really?

Would have been nice to see something a bit more dramatic happen with those soldier chaps. Could have made the father bits a bit more emotive as well.
  • Orange #15 4 years ago

All that summoning effort from Arthas just so he can kill 10 frost boars and collect 10 ice vulture lungs.
  • Sildur #16 4 years ago

I really have to say I agree - As much as I love WoW... The WAR video is far far more impressive.

This whole 'X is better than Y' is silly. You can not compare the Wrath of the Lich King cinematic to the Dawn of War 2 one. Well, you can but it is like comparing Armageddon to Amelie.

The Dawn of War 2 cinematic is a glorious clash of races, battling each other, showing off their moves and badarseness. Fantastic to watch, I really enjoy it. The intro of World of Warcraft and the addon The Burning Crusade were done in the same manner, just less bloody.

The Wrath of the Lich King cinematic is a short story driven movie. No action, no battling going on, one may even call it 'boring'. However, to me - someone with a little bit of knowledge about the lore (or story if you hate the word lore) of Warcraft - this really gets my juices flowing. I am incredibly hyped in a geeky way.

Both cinematics are amazing in my humble opinion, period :)

I've just had Sauron on the phone and he said when the Witch King has finished playing around with his friends can he go back to Middle Earth as there is work to be done.
  • thebuzzard #19 4 years ago

The trailer is much more atmospheric than the other trailers mentioned. Not a giddy frenzy, but has style and makes me tingle with anticipation.

Also you really need to download the full high def version to appreciate the detail.

  • MightyMouse #21 4 years ago

    @triggerhappytel

So very true; the artistic style of Arthas was identical to that of the Witch King of Angmar and even the way the minions roared was completely taken from LOTR.

That said, the guys at blizzard are astoundingly good at these by now. Apart from the high quality of the CG itself, the way they manage to tell a story like that over 3 minutes is impressive (and much better than the TBC one).
  • Zeali #22 4 years ago

Nothing that spectacular, but still looked kinda nice...
  • Krelle #23 4 years ago

    @Kanselier:
You got something wrong there mate. Its not Dawn of War 2, but WarhammerOnline they argue about, Im sure.
Still, the comparisons are still silly billy.
  • paavopaavo #24 4 years ago

Great but not breathtaking. The voiceover was, as always with Blizz videos, fantastic, but the content per se wasn't that impressive. So he summons yet another undead dragon and has a huge army of undead - and...? Technics-wise just as great as all the other Blizz CGI but actual script could have used a little bit more oomph. Although I think that it just goes to show how very much Blizzard is in a class of its on when it comes to game CGI (tech & story-wise) for me to even ramble this long about some intro movie of a game I prolly don't ever even play.

Still the crown of all game intros ever is held by WC3 - Frozen Throne. Just the thought of the start of it with Illidan uttering the word "Betrayer." with all the contempt and poison possible is enough to make me wanna watch that movie in YouTube right now. So I will.
  • hiddenranbir #25 4 years ago

What the hell is Mufasa doing in WoW!?!
  • Wyrm #26 4 years ago

Brilliant. Far more mature than random classes fighting each other like we have seen previously. I've really been getting into the lore of the game, this kinda thing only helps to cement in my mind how much more fun the game is when you understand what it all means rather than just looking at your XP bar.
  • sargeant_samporridge #27 4 years ago

so is this the begining of the hype or has it already started
