Wario Land: The Shake Dimension - Intro and gameplay

Need 3 votes!

Now, we're not 100 per cent sure what's going on here, but if we know anything about Nintendo, we're betting that's a princess in that cage, and that the evil techno-Viking-giant has designs on somehow messing with her kingdom via an army of evil underlings. Just a guess. Gameplay after the intro.

Jeez, had to get through all that cartoon bit just to see some gameplay. I like the look of it. Old-skool 2D platforming is cool and the graphics are vibrant. Gameplay looks alright.

I really liked the old Wario Land games on the Gameboy - glad they're bringing Wario back for something other that WarioWare!

Please remember that for some of us, 'retro' is where we spent a lot of our lives.

Been there, done that. (Many, many times!)

@Weezer.

Well some of us are (VERY) bored of playing endless fps games. And games like this come along VERY rarely.

It may be retro.. But it's also a breath of fresh air after endless greys and browns.

Interesting to note that you probably wont say "been there done that" when the latest brown carbon copy of every other one shooter comes out

Jeez. All I'm saying is that collecting coins, smashing blocks and being fired out of cannons isn't exactly unique - anyone would have thought I'd just bummed your mom or something...

@Weezer.

All i'm saying is that pointing your cursor at something and pressing the A button to "shoot" it isnt exactly unique.

And in a market full of games like the above, having a game where you run around jumping on blocks, etc etc and NOT have to point a gun at something IS kinda unique.

How many GOOD games like this have we seen in the last 5 years? How many shooters?

Thus the reason people like me are excited about pl

@ smelly - yep, I take your point. I'm certainly pretty bored of generic FPSes. I find myself increasingly drawn to stuff on XBLA or PSN in the hope of playing something different. Hooked on PixelJunk Monsters at the moment...

Not sure about this one, but SEGA should really let Nintendo make Sonic games for them. Seriously.

I love me some true 2d quality platforming, this looks great! And from what I understand of the official Japanese site, motion controls are only used for shaking, as you hold the Wiimote as a classic controller. BTW this has been made "Good Feel", made up by ex-Konami developers.
I hope there will be more oldskool games like this, would love to see a Metroid or Castlevania with similar upgraded 2D graphics.

The last 2D game we saw on a Nintendo home console [N64] was Yoshi's Story - released over a decade ago in early April 1998.

If it's anything like Warioland 1,2,3 on GB/C we're in for a treat!

There's no rule that says just becasue it's 2D it's not allowed on home consoles - despite what SCE have said in the past!
