Actually the concept they have sounds pretty good. Sadly, I doubt I would ever have the time to play this. sigh

Is this published by EA? If so why didn't they use the film's aesthetics?

Keep the story from the book but use the film for visuals - seems like the obvious choice to me - if they have the rights that is.
