    It's a load of bollocks.

    Get past the fancy opening AMV and you are faced with the samegame that ahs existed for 6 years.
    Reach the level cap after an ultimately pointless process of levelling up then make the choice of either grinding unbalanced PvP or playing the same few dungeons every night for weeks.

    I swear to god if a console game released sequels that kept reproducing exactly the same gameplay year after year it would be slammed and rightfully so. Somehow, because WoW has never even vaguely altered from the formula of 'keep killing these bosses until we release the next bosses in three months', it is genius?

    I played at a pretty high level of raiding for about 2 years (wasn't one of the ones who did everything first on the server but not too far behind) and then one day, after reading about Cataclysm I had the epiphany moment of 'what the hell am I doing this shit for?'

    Power to the people who still play and enjoy it, but can we, 6 years later, stop pretending that Warcraft as a piece of 'game' is awesome and beyond reproach.

    Its going to be EPIC!!!

    I have to wait till Christmas though for mine as my wife has bought me it as a pressie. The Special Edition one from game with all the extra stuff

    I've only been playing about 3 months now so its still pretty fresh for me. I havn't done Northrend and the Lich King expansion as of yet so I guess waiting till Christmas isnt so bad!

    Levelling a human priest through the new content and I have to say it is absolutely amazing. For an old Vanilla player I was blown away by the changes in the world, and how it connected with the old storyline. Also love the little "in" jokes, The sense of story in each area so far surpasses anything I have seen in MMO's. In the Western Plague lands (now 30-40) ATM, and loving it.

    That has to be the best music I've ever heard for any game.

    I actually preferred this vid to the Deathwing cinematic!

    As someone that hasn't played since WOTLK release, I wish you were right. But looking at that video, I can't help but be a little taken back by how much work has gone into it. It looks really intriguing. MUST. NOT. GO. BACK.

    It looks like WoW v1.5 or something.

    I like how Blazzard are being charged to force me to watch an advert about warcraft before I see the video about warcraft....

    I've already pre-ordered, and paid, for the CE of Cataclysm. It's a treat for myself, since I've never bought a CE of anything before. The game, after all these years, is still compelling and fun. Sure, more of the same but as long as it's fun it doesn't really matter much.

    The revamped starting zones are genuinely interesting, most of the zones have some sort of mini story that is actually quite compelling. I used to hate levelling with a passion, I'm actually finding quite fun now, I'm even playing through zones my new alt out levelled just to see what the little storyline is.

    Hopefully the new end game content is better than WOTLKs. WOTLk heroics were far too easy, and the same can be applied to many of the raid encounters. But reports so far suggest cc is back, and that the designers have actually taken on board the criticism. So might turn out well after all.

    @Shikasama - I can see where you're coming from, I really can. Doesn't stop me liking it though. And I can think of a quite a few console games that are usually well recieved that have the same mechanics as the previous incarnation, which whilst being derided by some still prove quite popular amongst many.

    It may be the same game it has been for many years, but look at CoD - all you do is shoot a gun in different places. Is that not the same ?
  • Moz #15 2 years ago

    @Shikasama

    Have you actually played WOW recently? A lot of the Cata changes are already in place, with the new quest chains being far more varied and with a better story behind it then before. And if the info coming out from the beta is true then the difficulty at the top end has also gone back up, not to the original levels but less of a faceroll then WotLK.

    And as for it being the same game as 6 years ago, there hasn't been an MMO in the last six years that brought anything new to the table of any worth. And the same can be side for FPS or Platformers or Driving games.

    What makes new games and expansions worth getting are better graphics, tweaks to the gameplay, new levels and new story. Cataclysm delivers on all counts to a greater or lesser degree.

    Saying it's no longer for you is fine but declaring it as "a load of bollocks" is just ignorant.

    @Moz

    "not to the original levels but less of a faceroll then WotLK."

    I agree WOTLK was far to easy, but I'm not so sure why people seem to have such find memories of the original games encounters. Aside from a few bosses, the original raids weren't that hard at all. Getting 40 people to sign up for raids might have been tricker, and we weren't quite as well informed, but if those encounters were released today they'd mostly seem on par with WOTLK content.

    TBC raids, now they were awesome.
  • Nephirion #17 2 years ago

    The changes are often subtle but very well implemented my only concern is that your really exploring existing content that has been tweaked to provide a more up-to-date leveling experience.
  • Kremlik Verified Co-Founder, Crash To Desktop #18 2 years ago

    @Neph - it some cases you are right, some of the old quests are still there, but as someone already said blizzard has rebuilt the world from the ground up and many quests reflect that

    Instead of being 'static' thanks to phasing and more 'buddy' npcs you actally feel like you are affecting the world via questing, instead of just a kill quest that continues to spawn the mobs - in some cases those mobs do 'die', these mini events while questing have vastly improved the game, some are worth seeing again on alts too (even for those who skip the quest text), questing is less a means to endgame with endless kill/collect quests and more a interactive story unfolding before you..

    Vanilla WoW has been brought into 2010 at last, shame the same can't be said about Outland, but meh it's only 10 quick levels (and Wrath's leveling has been vastly spead up too, which is nice :))

    I've stayed clear of WoW. Tried the trial, promised myself that I'd subscribe for a few months as a treat, then didn't for some reason.
    My wife would kill me if I signed up. She's already an Xbox360 widow, and to add this would finish our marriage! I know full well I'll get hooked on it. However, the hype for cataclysm is pulling me in...
