My Lion has gotten damn rusty as of late but just watching this make me think its time for a change over to Mr El Blaze just because he looks that awesome.

    Also this looks damn nice.

Hmm, that new Eileen character have a darn fine fighting style, kinda like eddie from tekken. Me likes.
  • binky #3 6 years ago

So is this definitely PS3 EXCLUSIVE?
  • BMXer #4 6 years ago

I love VF but i still get owned by button bashers, grrrrrrr. I feel it would be easier to master the arts for real!

VF5 looks awsome, just because it is. This is the 1 thing the PS3 has going for it right now. But im not sure its a Kick in the face to the xbox360.

  • StixxUK #8 6 years ago

Oooh, that looks so new and exciting.
  • Duckers #9 6 years ago

Pah. I got a PS2, three weeks ago. Now, look at this. What a kick in the teeth, dudes.
  • yiannis #10 6 years ago

Since the game lost that distinct VR style it had.. meh... This thing is becoming more like a Tekken clone or is it just me? also... sometimes it kind of screams "pre-rendered layer ahoy"!!!

Real time dynamic water droplets anyone ??? tsk tsk tsk
It's doing great being a PS3 exclusive methinks.
  • HelloWorld #11 6 years ago

This nearly appeals to me. I saw a video of vf3tb on the interweb and it looked a lot better somehow. Didn't seem to have those stupid floaty juggles, where you jab someone horizontally, and they get pushed up, as if there's some giant invisible magic fan underneath them or something. Also, a lot of the moves look like the guys aren't actually hitting eachother.
Sarah looks like Gayle Platt now, and Vanessa isn't black anymore. Monkey child looks extremely annoying. I think the emperor is naked.

Have to agree with you here. Looks totally generic and derivative.

And, horror-of-horrors, we have wrestling grease boys as fighters.

I think softco's definitely need to take a leaf out of Nintendo's book. ie as in Wii sports go back to basics and then build it up from there. In other words, get back to the basic karate/martial arts moves/styles (as in International Karate+ or Way of The Exploding Fist) and build a game from the ground up.

Meh. Is it just me or does this game suffer from the terribly outdated 'cage syndrome'? I mean where are the multi layer enviroments & lvl interactivity? Looks nice for the rest but not stunning.
  • alimokrane #14 6 years ago

Im happy with DOA4 and VF5 doesnt seem to be bringing anything new into the table.
  • Duckers #15 6 years ago

Next time I get to Gamestation, I'm gettin' Tekken 5. I've told my mates this, and it's all "Oh, don't get it. It's crappy." Or something like "Get Mortal Kombat: Deception, 'cos it's better." Anyone here have opinions?
  • JediMasterMalik #16 6 years ago

Tekken 5. MK animations are crap imo.
  • Bates #17 6 years ago

"Im happy with DOA4 and VF5 doesnt seem to be bringing anything new into the table."

You say this as though DoA4 brought something new to the table. It was big step back for the DoA games, and if VF5 can at the least manage to be as good as VF4, I think everybody will be more than happy.

Looks well tasty from what I can see.

This teaser has got me *very* excited for VF5. Eileen looks cute, and El Blaze looks *awesome*. "Start. running. now!" Plus all the old cast looked brilliant, loved how they sequed into one another.

Yup, very excited. Music sounded cool too, and some great locations. Hope for character specific fighting arenas...

Problem: need a PS3, and I dont wann part with the cash...

Also, people who criticise "cages" or lack of multi-tiered levels: VF was the first series to experiment with gradiated fighting arenas at different levels. Simply, it ended up looking ungainly, and didn't add to proceedings. I much prefer VF4 to 3... and I'm sure this iteration will be good too. It's all about the combat, y'all!

Then it suffered from bad design because I can think of several beat 'em, ups with multi lvl platforms that work very well. So the point still stands.

Hmm... I believe Virtua Fighter 4 has been released for the PS2. My mate had VF3 for his Dreamcast, ages ago. I haven't seen how the fourth installment turned out yet, so that might be one for the list. Oh, and thanks, JediMasterMalik for the opinion. Anyone have preferences between Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 5?

Several? I can think of DoA2 and 3 and nothing else here. Having to rely on stage interactivity is nothing more than an unnecessary distraction from the combat or an amusing short lived chance to go 'hur hur i just kicked him through da window lol'. The actual fighting is sort of the point of these games, and it shouldn't be taken away from or diluted by anything else.

Mmmm distinct wiff of Wii fanboys slagging this game off round here, wouldn't be because the outdated Nintendo hardware can't handle these graphics would it? What's the response, "its not original" Unlike Zelda exactly the same as the last 3 games and Mario fail to see how the new joypad makes any difference to how it plays 15. Now, now, lets not argue I'm just throwing your own hypocritical views back in your faces, the point is its quality that counts and when it comes to quality VF's the best 3d beat-em up bar none.
Sega dumped the layered background idea because for some reason the gaming press seem to think VF3 which originated the idea was really really bad and the playstation's s-l-o-w grainy badly textured VF4 port with flat stages is the dogs privates. One of the reasons they say its "better" is having nice boring flat stages so I don't see Sega ever experiment with the idea again. A shame as it actually made a difference in the VF as you could get more combo hits in when you floated somebody on an slopping surface whereas in other 3D beat em ups its just for show and there's no real skill to it. Surely the ultimate VF would be VF4 spruced up attack system with VF3's experimentation?
  • HelloWorld #23 6 years ago

There's nothing wrong with interactive arenas. I think that they can be an excuse for not having any other kind of innovation in a game, and also if they are done wrong, can completely mess things up.

Done right, they add to the strategy, and make you take your surroundings into account. The same can be said for having finite rings, walls and that.
  • Triggerhappytel #24 6 years ago

    Looks awesome.

The best fighting series by a long, long way, and one of the most prolific reasons to own a PS3 at the moment.
  • riz23 #25 6 years ago

This would be my only reason to buy a PS3 right now. I love VF but one game won't swing it for me. If we hold out, we'll get a 360 version eventually *prays*. As for the argument about multi-level design VF still offers massive strategic options regarding ring-outs on Barrier-Less levels. The DoA environments are fun I have to admit, but VF is the fighting game par excellence bar none. I'm not sure Vanessa was ever 'Black' as such, she is Brazilian, so could be a crazy mix. She does look paler though.
  • Knot #26 6 years ago

C'mon... Virtua Fighter doesn't suck all of a sudden just because of what people think of the PS3 atm.

I still love VF's gameplay style - yes, WITHOUT, those layered backgrounds, better than any other fighting game. The gameplay footage at IGN looks really nice.

And if you don't wanna play it on a PS3, you can always go play it at the arcades (...in Japan lol )

looks the same as dead or alive 4 to me... but im not into fighters, they are probably very different :/
  • Prophet_Hero #28 6 years ago

Having given up on DOA4 and gone back to concentrate properly on VF4: Evo, I'm looking foward to this a lot. The exclusivity is a bit of a downer though it adds another title to the (admittedly short) list I'm drawing up to convince my bank manager.
