The Top 50 Retro Arcade Games

These were the hungry machines which were guzzling all your 10 and 20 pence pieces when you were a wee thing. The 10 and 20 pieces which, had you spent them on maths books, might have bought you a job at NASA.

Even more memories of hanging around arcades where I played nearly all of these espeically Star Wars. You missed Battlezone, Wonderboy, Pacland and Space Harrier from the early 80's, blimey it's been a trip this weekend with the speccy, C64 and now this thanks EG!

It just serves to show how things have moved on in such a short time.

I think it also shows how the arcades have moved backwards, too. Although it goes against the established cliché, arcades might have "quality" these days (though I guess that's kinda debatable), but they're really lacking in "quantity".
Just remember what it was like when the arcades were bustling, and there was enough raster light to blind you and so many flickering screens that seizures and strokes were an acceptable hazard.
Ah, I miss the arcades. So badly. It breaks my heart every time I go to Coral Island these days - it's empty to me...

Elevator action! Omg I had completely forgotten that game.

And Zaxxon was an awesome game, spent so much money on that and Nemesis... ahhh, memories :)

A lot of amazing games there but where is Street Fighter? Outrun? Afterburner? Shinobi? Rolling Thunder? Bubble Bobble? Kung-Fu Master? I think they all rate higher than some of the games up there.

This video represents arcade games pre-1986. A second video is in the works for the 1986 - early 1990's era.

Scramble was the first game I ever pirated.

Nothing can beat Tempest on that list. Err.. well maybe Robotron.

I cant believe I played 95% of them.

Oh god!!! Gravitar! And Berzerk! Lunar Lander!!! *sigh*

Kinda funny that I can probably program some of them in a day now :)

BTW where is Vanguard? (http://ww w.arcade-history.com/index.php?... Surely one of the best shooters of the 80s.
