The Eurogamer TV Show: Rock Band 2 vs. Guitar Hero 4

Published 28 August, 2008 Duration 10:27

It's the great gaming battle of the bands. As Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2 prepare to square off on stage this autumn, Harmonix and Neversoft try to persuade you why their game is the real rock star. As well as having a good bitch about each other.

That Harmonix guy must have a cold.

"Buy the new drumkit when the old one breaks"

Well that's not very bloody encouraging.
  • Thalanos #3 4 years ago

I was thinking the exact same thing!

Edit: About the cold I mean.

RB2 will be better because Neversoft are rubbish. FACT.

All this talk of endless expandability kind of falls down when it comes to the actual chart tracks. If I add 16 cymbals to a kit, how is the game going to deal with that?

"We can endlessly expand..." means nothing, because you aren't going to, because it would break your game.

For me a lot of it comes down to the quality of the peripherals. I care far less about expandability than I do about how the basic set actually plays. The RockBand peripherals are bloody awful, and they need to address that before anything else matters. I kind of feel that they will though, and that makes GH:WT look less impressive by comparison.

Microsoft are dicks about those timed exclusives.
  • greenthumb #7 4 years ago

the peripherals for rock band are cheap rubbish, but the DLC for guitar hero is equally shite. Plastic instruments from guitar hero with RB2 is the way to go. If it wasnt for the DLC for rock band we would have quit playing it a long time ago

Nice. And yes, Rockband will not be able to compete if they don't get their game out here soon. I'm figuring though that they will skip Rockband 1 on PS3 altogether and go straight through to Rockband 2 in Europe. Hopefully in time to compete with Guitar Hero World Tour.

    @guilty spark

i think you misunderstood what he was saying.
The neversoft guy was saying if you can't afford the GH kit then you can use your RB1 kit with GH world tour, and when your rock band kit breaks then you can buy the GH kit - a sly dig at the shoddy RB peripherals.

Which one comes with an interest free payments plan?
  • BillyBrush #11 4 years ago

they're well squabbly aren't they....why not have 18 cymbals whilst you're in the business of comparing shlongs, it'll cost £500 but who cares, you'll have wayy more cymbals than the 'other game' (ohh mystery?)

Frequency and amplitude were great now Harmonix make games for rich kids and Neversoft do this and arse up Tony Hawk...greeeat

"Buy the new drumkit when the old one breaks"

That was the GH guy talking about the RockBand stuff!

That was expertly edited EG, to make them look like complete morons. The level of sniping and bitching was off the scale, and really unbelievably childish. Prefered the GH chap for what it's worth though.

Hate both games, so I'm not sure why I bothered watching this :p

I haven't bought any of the full band kits yet, looks like I will get the Guitar Hero kit and then buy rock band to play on it too.
  • themorganator #14 4 years ago

I like the idea of using a proper electronic kit instead of their crap ones. Excellent vid all the same.
  • DrKuK #15 4 years ago

the harmonix fella needs reminding of the drum animation on loading screens on rock band. guess how many cymbals.. oh yeah 2 hmmm.

Anyway i'll be getting both games.
  • coderkind #16 4 years ago

Very nicely put-together video, thanks Eurogamer.

I haven't bought Rock Band yet either. I was going to, but then thought they were taking the utter piss with the UK pricing.

I'll buy one of them this time round, but not unless the pricing isn't lightyears away from the US cost.
  • TheRealBadabing #17 4 years ago

Decisions decisions my arse. Rock Band (EA) have fucked Europe over and with GH releasing globally I hope they clean up.
  • Daikon #18 4 years ago

Screw Harmonix. Rock Band 1 is region locked on 360 and there's no Asian version coming out any time soon.
Looking forward to getting the new Guitar Hero.

There's only one winner here, and thats Rock Band 2, FACT!! ROCK BAND!! I LOVE ROCK BAND!! WOOOO!! WAHEY!! GET IN!!
  • DoKtoR #21 4 years ago

Bit of a bitch session that was... out of that entire 10mins all I got was- GH better drum kit, RB more DLC... those guys need to kiss and make up.
  • PodlingJuice #22 4 years ago

I'll be getting GH:WT purely because the redoctane peripherals are better. Probably get solus versions of RB / RB2 if GH DLC isn't up to scratch (acronyms FTW!).
  • Stepharneo #23 4 years ago

maybe he was just really lucky, but my friends rockband instrument kit hasn't broken and doesn't feel cheap at all...infact it makes the guitar hero controller feel like a childs toy, though my group of friends is split down the middle as to which controllers they like the most so maybe all of the rockband peripherals are secretly made of marmite....:)
  • djed #24 4 years ago

    haha lol, Passive aggressive much?
  • DivideAndCombo #25 4 years ago

Im always amused with this minkley's voice. He's from another planet :)
  • plastickitty #26 4 years ago

They should of dropped the guitar from the name and called it Rock Hero :)
  • neptar #27 4 years ago

I think the harmoinx chap was a little childish and was struggling for an arguement a lot of the time. The neversoft man has one over on him imo. The harmonix guys comment about only 2 cymbals really made him look a little desperate. As I don't play with a ride cymbal on my real drum set. But he misses the point that the GH drums come with those cymbals out of the box...
