    What is this emo shit?!
  • Lexx87 #2 3 years ago

That just one big giant advert :p
  • Fab4 #3 3 years ago

Ffs! Get some decent taste in music!
  • jonsaan #4 3 years ago

We get it ok EG. You love the new 360 experience.
  • MrJoeSnow #5 3 years ago

    Great, bring it on!
  • kangarootoo #6 3 years ago

The remote download stuff is pretty damn cool. If you can tell your 360 to turn off after stuff has downloaded, even better (any knowledge of that EG?).

What Sony need now is a web based version of remote play to compliment the PSP functionality.

    >Ffs! Get some decent taste in music!

Yea some emo death metal always does the trick.
  • mcmothercruncher #8 3 years ago

Copied Nintendo for the avatars and OS X 10.5 for the sliding interface. Good but utterly derivative and utterly shameless. In other words- utterly Microsoft.
  • Camorrista #9 3 years ago

    Now that's an entertaining ad.
  • Apostle #10 3 years ago

    8/10 lol

Music is pretty horrible, I agree with the others.
  • HardCoreGamer999 #11 3 years ago

whats with netflix in Europe ?
  • Zander #12 3 years ago

Ugly... Blades are nice and simple. PS3 UI is shite so are MS trying to compete for the shitist UI? I like the install on HDD and some of the extra features (streaming videos) but I am using a console not a PC, i don't want a millions menus!!!
  • crispyduckman #13 3 years ago

This reminds me of how excited I was when Windows Vista came out. I need to lie down.

    "PS3 UI is shite.."

???? I do not get that at all. Personally I find it very slick and the best of the bunch, even after this casual facelift for the old 360 :)

I was a big fan even when they first introduced the XMB with PSP.
  • adamamosa #17 3 years ago

It looks great . . . except for the f**king avatars!! Still, My other half will no doubt love them.
  • Zander #18 3 years ago

xmb works on psp, generally 'cause they aren't so many options. But on the ps3 I always feel its a chore going through them. My fav bit (though it can be annoying when its idle) is the preview bit of a game. Wii channels are good (actually probably the best thing about the wii). I just think I am playing a console so everything should be a simple as possible. Are the Avatars mandatory? If so that is balls.
  • Dark_Era #19 3 years ago

"How do you get a group of friends and introduce content" the answer? Home, lol, which i might say hasent been released yet, lol.

  • Fab4 #20 3 years ago

I havent been this excited since the 1918 flu pandemic.
  • bad09 #21 3 years ago

    @ Zander

Yeah I see what you mean. I may be bias as I use my PS3 for all my media, except HD DVD of course, so for me the XMB is pretty sweet as it's all there with easy access (especially if you throw in TVersity).

And yes the avatar are mandatory. If you want to avoid the cute little buggers you have to use that small guide in the centre of the screen all the time.

A simple hide avatars option would have been a better solution if you ask me....
  • Zander #22 3 years ago

I cannot be f*cked with having to setup up some shitty Avatar!!! I wanna play games and chainsaw people in the face for god sake.

xmb - does it have a good cataloging system for you files? I don't have many on mine so don't know. One thing that gripes is that by default it list my games by install date and not alphabetical, who does that!?
  • Pukerslaker #23 3 years ago

Does installing games mean you can bulk up your collection via blockbuster rentals?
  • Widge #24 3 years ago

My XMB is grouped by folder by system type (PS3, PSP, PS1), and then within that it is ordered by last played (which is pretty handy). Music - albums are pretty much all tagged, so they are in album folder order. Actually not checked to see if the PS3 does gapless playback with mp3s, was way impressed when I discovered the PSP did.
  • onyxbox #25 3 years ago

looking forward to the update but that EGTV was just a glorified advert.

'we invented it all... i've got paper that proves it' - that made me and a few work colleagues laugh.

'we didn't want to do anything too simple or anything too realistic' - translates to Nintendo did something cool - Sony are making something cool so we'll make something meh that sits somewhere in between... no risk there.
  • iancognito #26 3 years ago

    @Zander and bad09.

It's a good point really. There's a lot of options on the PS3 (perhaps too many) and the Xbox could be going the same way. At the moment the blades are pretty simple.

"That just one big giant advert :p "

    That's gaming press for you.
  • dirk_aircool #28 3 years ago

I dont think we have a choice
  • Xerx3s #29 3 years ago

"the answer? Home, lol, which i might say hasent been released yet, lol. "

Yeah because launching a separate program, wandering around in a 3d world to find your friends and then trying to enter a game is not cumbersome when you do it for the 100th time.
  • Widge #30 3 years ago

Dunno. It might work well. You see enough "Organise online games here" threads on EG, you gather in Home and launch the game you want... the way its been spun is you can select the game type you all want to play in advance and then launch straight into it. Still, just hypothetical, waiting to see proof in the pudding.
  • Scimarad #31 3 years ago

That actually looks a lot more cluttered than I was expecting.
  • gruntboy #32 3 years ago

Sausage? Why did he mention sausage? Is microsoft in the sausage business now? Oh well....with mash and gravy for me, please.
  • metalnut #33 3 years ago

Looks pretty nice to me, especially the marketplace restructure - marketplace is absolutely awful to trawl through unless you're only interested in new releases because there's so damn much in it.

Personally, I like the avatars because it means I can actually make a unique gamertag pic, instead of being limited to the ones that are in the box or downloadable (and others are using). Interface looks slick to me - a mixture of the compact (and arguably new user-unfriendly) existing interface and the swish looking but rather laborious when full of content XMB.

But then, people always bitch when things change. Move with the times lads ;)
  • migasUK #34 3 years ago

OMG I have to upgrade my HDD, this gonna be great!!! Can't wait...
  • migasUK #35 3 years ago

where's Home? ihihihihi... perhaps in 2010 or perhaps never....sony just lied to you wake up fools...
  • GamerG #36 3 years ago

Wow truly a breathtaking operating system, nothing comes close!
  • S.J.Rogers #37 3 years ago

Looks great and remember MS did not have to do this. The 360 needed it, dont get me wrong but MS could have just left it as it is and waited for the 720...

    Good job MS..!
  • Widge #38 3 years ago

migasUK, you are just a box of awesome. well done.
  • Owwmykneecap #39 3 years ago

    Looking good.

The dash has become unweildy, too much content.
The avatars are a rip off, but a wise move and the Idea of Primetime game is epic. possibility of real prizes too.

my only fear is how unwieldy will the friends "list" thing be with a lot of friends on?
  • Skurmedel #40 3 years ago

Terrible music, but it's not "emo".

And for some constructive stuff: feels a bit like an ad, but if you're looking forward to this it's still very interesting.

New dashboard looks very childish, especially the avatars.
  • Calgon #42 3 years ago

Isnt the Xmb just a "big massive copy"(typical of Sony) off MS' Windows Media Centre UI? ;)

This new dashboard interface looks great, more modern, flashier AND faster by design(navigation) and performance(faster loading)? Yes please.

  • Xerx3s #43 3 years ago

"Isnt the Xmb just a "big massive copy"(typical of Sony) off MS' Windows Media Centre UI? ;) "

Everything is a copy of everything. The only reason why some can get away with it is because they bought themselves a nice image.
  • coastal #44 3 years ago

why doesn't he use his full mouth?
  • Notorious_LRO #45 3 years ago

My God. You journalistic, for sale, wide assed Eurogamer wh*r#s!
  • JackB #46 3 years ago

Many Eurogamer posters are negative, snarky, whiners, but this collection of posts takes the cake.

Makes me want to be a PC gamer. Or not a gamer at all. Is there anyone posting here older than 14 or is this just a UK thing?
  • stoopidgreg #47 3 years ago

you use this word, nooks and crannies?
  • peterfll #48 3 years ago

There's a lot of 360 owners out there, it's a significant change for the console, EG's mandate is to cover such stuff, they're entitled to an opinion and they like it.

That upsets people. What a surprise.
  • seedaripper #49 3 years ago

i wonder how many 360's this update will brick ;)
    360lol...
  • Ryze #50 3 years ago

    ^ None.

    @peterfll

This is an advert. An informative advert, but an advert none the less.
  • djed #51 3 years ago

i think it's nice of the "games media" to alleviate the gaming corps' pr-departments' work load. at least as long as it is done openly like this.
  • DDevil #52 3 years ago

I'm actually looking forward to this far too much.

Lisa: "This is a rather shameless promotion."
    Bart: "Worked on me."
    Lisa: "Me too!"
  • skin426 #53 3 years ago

looks different, ill give it a go butim happy with the way it is. i hope the bald git aint on my friends list, all my friends are good looking people, i think....
  • Bangaioh #54 3 years ago

Yeah, the music is shit... thats the problem with microsoft, they have muscle and the whole nxe is a pretty cool step fwd, but when it comes to communicating their firepower they're just clueless...
anyway the nxe is a cool move, I'm personally enjoying it and glad that they decided to move into this direction...
