Really enjoyed this episode, well done. I'm surprised that Darkness looks so good and interesting, hopefully it will match the chronicles of roddick.

well I for one am convinced

Sony's answer to the "why show Home so late" being Sony is a company that wants to show the representative product and has an attitude of "show don't tell".
Has their stance changed since E3 2005's trailer extravaganza? ;)
  • Vin #10 5 years ago

Resistance is the Next NEXT gen, is it?

    Fuck sake.

    BUY A 360.
  • Darkedge #11 5 years ago

I'd bet if they announced the TV giveaway an hour or two before the PS3 launch would've been massive, as it was just a last ditch attempt to not look stupid in the press next morning.
Ray talks a lot of bull doesn't he though.. show and not tell? Oh so you told us it would be a worldwide launch, guess that showed us.
Neil was mostly honest with a small amount of spin/marketing (Blueray drive for 360? not going to happen ever..).
The videos at the end do come out definitely on the 360 i'd say as in game graphics compared to the usual lush Square FMV doesn't cut it (even if that FMV is rendered in realtime - remember the bouncer?)

    Good show guys.

Thompson: "I would say to those consumers that are looking to buy PS3, or even Wii, if you're asking yourself; "what's the best HD gaming platform, which delivers the best online experience," then there is no better choice than 360."
Nice. Conveniently suiting the 360 offering with those questions.
I've got a better question: "Which platform holder is looking to encompass a broad range of software titles to encourage the uptake of a broad consumer market so that my online experience will not be limited to the hardcore/geeky/kiddy?" Not 360 then... ;0)
  • NthSimulachum #14 5 years ago

Next gen next gen eh? Ai needs the most disc space?

Ahh hell all this Sony ribbing has been done to death. Can we not leave them alone to wallow in their disgrace and fall to a lower market share?
  • morriss #15 5 years ago

No shortage on games on the Horizon to help you make your mind up? Well some Horizons are more distant than others it appear, with all the 360 games coming out this year and only vague '2008' release dates for the PS3.

Seriously, get both if you can. Pick up a cheap 360 now and enjoy the next 12 months, as the games that are coming look fantastic. Then, early '08 get a PS3 as I'm sure their 2008 will looks as good as MS' 2007.
  • Red-Moose #16 5 years ago

    Good episode

    RE: comments above-

I got a 360 Premium instead of a Core, but traded the Premium in for a PS3 as I wasn't using it.

I am considering an Elite when the 65nm chips are used - the Elite 2?

Then, next year, I'll get a 360 Ultra which will have HDMI 1.3 and built in HDDVD, no wireless and will come in a sunny orange colour.

Hopefully, in 2009, the 360 Super will be out with all upgrades incorporated and a direct debit form for Microsoft to deduct a yearly product update charge from my bank account.

As unprecedented as the last broadcast.....
  • u_wasted #19 5 years ago

A good watch. I have to confess i have bought both and at this moment in time i think the xbox is the better platform, only because the online features are so much better on the 360. I guess this will change when home comes out for the ps3. Sony just need to get GT4 out asap then problem solved :-P

Rash: Bollocks. I suggest you actually look into what you say before making a fool out of yourself.
  • Rash' #23 5 years ago

Xerx3s, I suggest you make a point before telling people they look foolish. You clearly fit that bill.

  • stoopidgreg #30 5 years ago

i loved the comment about how blu-ray is necessary for advanced AI.

    that made me chortle.
  • stepneg #31 5 years ago

So the PS3 is next next gen, if only they said that to begin with maybe they wouldn't have got slated on the high price!
  • Rash' #32 5 years ago

dbeamish: I didn't think you had a point any more than Xerx3s did. Fact of the matter is a large proportion of 360 content is gear towards the hardcore/geeky/kiddy contingent, which is reflected in the online community currently prevalent on Live. Future products don't fill me with much confidence regarding Microsoft's long term strategy, so I have to ask myself based on their immediate output over the coming years is 360 where I want to be? On current hardware prices the short answer is, no. I'm happy with my Wii and PS3 so Microsoft will have to do more to convince me they can appeal to a bigger market than the one they are currently trying to whoa.
  • mcmothercruncher #33 5 years ago

    Is that his wanking arm?

Done my wanking arm a couple of times- that alone is the most painful part of the recovery.

im not disagreein with you rash on the point ure makin, but from previous experience ive found ppl, on the overall whole (youll always find idiots and that includes playstation online no doubt) to be very friendly and interesting to talk to.

i guess you have experience from different games though perhaps?

    Touche mofo's good show
  • bonker #43 5 years ago

There were a couple of cringe-worthy comments in there from the Sony guy lol
  • wired009 #44 5 years ago

Another great episode of eurogamer tv. I like the PS3 technology, but I prefer the X360 exclusive titles slightly. Buying a console this generation is not an easy choice unless you buy them all. The storage media debate is still open in my opinion. I still think it was premature for Microsoft to dismiss next gen DVD for game content, and don't like how they are taking a reactive strategy over a preemptive one (not just in hardware but in combating online services like Wii channels and PS3 Home). I found it interesting that the Starbreeze developer hinted that the PS3 version of Darkness will have more content than on other platforms. If Sony can deliver on their promise through this year's games, they will catch up lost ground very quickly despite the high price of the console.
  • BLACKSHEEP #45 5 years ago

Does anyone else think the Microsoft bloke looks like Captain Jack from Torchwood??? ¬_¬

Oh and that sony guy looked drunk! or was he just tired like the whole Sony brand lol

  • Rash' #46 5 years ago

wired009, Good points. I'd have to agree with you on the reactive strategy front with Microsoft.
  • spindizzy #47 5 years ago

The Sony bloke was a complete knob jockey wasn't he? How did he manage to say that with a straight face?

Good show though EG - (though as usual, I'd rather see more of the games)
  • peterfll #48 5 years ago

Heh "man" what happpened to your arm?
  • Xerx3s #49 5 years ago

I've got a better question: "Which platform holder is looking to encompass a broad range of software titles to encourage the uptake of a broad consumer market so that my online experience will not be limited to the hardcore/geeky/kiddy?" Not 360 then... ;0)

You make it sound like the 360 doesn't have a broad range of 8+ score titles out or on the way this year. That makes you sound quite foolish. A quick stroll through ign will show you that.

Oh and simply because I can't be arsed to do the digging for you doesn't mean I have a point.

btw: lol at mentioning prices and then the ps3 and lol at mentioning the 2 platforms with the smallest games library out and coming for the next year after mentioning the broadness of games that you want.

    /claps slowly

  • Rash' #53 5 years ago

Xerx3s, Don't take it personally, man. 360 just doesn't have a diverse libriary of games that can appeal to a mainstream market. Hell you only have to look at the Japanese market to see that. Over a year in and the console still can't cater to eastern tastes. On current evidence I have very little faith in the console's long term future. Don't get me wrong as a western gamer yeah the system holds a lot of promise but these companies are aiming higher than the gaming market and clearly Microsofts current (as well as forth coming) games just aren't well prepared. Case in point, Viva Piñata and Banjo aside, what games does the system have that can appeal to a younger and feminine consumer? While you think about that I'll give some additional franchises to consider: Singstar, LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong...

Since the PS3 launch my 360 pretty much only goes on for Castlevania ... a PS1 game.

PLEASE make Eurogamer TV download-able as a separate video file; I'd prefer through iTunes, but I'll take what I can get, 'cause your bandwidth is too crappy for streaming.
  • funkyd #55 5 years ago

Hey Rash mate, I'm not quite sure you know what you're talking about because in your other comments you said it appeals to the hardcore/kiddy etc but in your most recent comment you said that apart from those two titles (viva pinata appeals to adults) that it doesnt have any titles that will appeal to kids.

    Contradiction!.......Eh Duh.

EDIT: oh and unlucky with the arm and all that.

  • Rash' #56 5 years ago

funkyd: lol. I see your point... Having said that if you look at the franchises I listed and compare them to the games on 360 at the moment you'll see my point was; it appeals to the hardcore/geeky/kiddy collective, where as the titles I mentioned appeal to a more mainstream kids market, you know the type that actually don't make that much time for gaming (I like to think of them as the "Disney kids";).
  • Gurrah #57 5 years ago

I could do with a lot more mixed content. Almost each show is either console or PC exclusive, which makes me kind of sad. Don't get me wrong, I loved the STALKER-exclusive, not so much the Burning Crusade one, but that's subjective, and it's great to have a whole show about something on your preferred system but it's a bit unfair and gets boring after a while especially with the long periods of waiting in between the shows.
  • Ryze #58 5 years ago

When will we be able to download the episodes?

I'd like a torrent in MPEG-4 that I can copy to the PSP please.

    Cheers.

Good show chaps - as the others have said - more focus on the games please, and hope the arm gets better soon.

  • manic_mouse #59 5 years ago

"what games does the system have that can appeal to a younger and feminine consumer?"

With the average gamer being a 30 year-old male I don't think it's too much of an issue tbh. Kids don't have much money to play about with and women spend theirs on clothes and make-up rather than games (generalisation, but mostly true).

For the most important gaming demographic (20-40 year-old males) the 360 is the best proposition out of all the consoles at the moment and for the next year in terms of games. It has the best software library at the moment by a long shot and has a better lineup for this year than either the PS3 or Wii, with more exclusives and all the third party boxes checked (even some that aren't like DMC).

The PS3 looks to have quite a good software lineup (especially for it's first year) if you don't already have a 360 while the Wii has been utterly piss-poor and looks to continue being piss-poor for games until crimbo. IMO of course.
