    "Wii-ing in every room"

You just couldn't resist could you...
  • Avaloner #3 5 years ago

Honestly Motorstorm is really the first game I feel is providing a next gen experience.

Ace Grace: Plus they gave away the polygon counts... which have already been beaten by many many games.
  • Avaloner #5 5 years ago

Its not only the graphics. Its the physics and the AI coming together to offer something beyond what most racers offer at the moment.
  • urban #6 5 years ago

loved the motorstorm feature, but johnny man, stop waving those hands around!
  • UncleLou #7 5 years ago

Doesn't look like anything a high spec PC couldn't do.

How is a high spec PC not "next gen"?

Besides, I haven't seen a game that good-looking on my PC yet.
  • barchetta #8 5 years ago

Yeah, Motorstorm is impressing me on a number of levels - the sheer density of effects animation, scale of the courses and a sense of 'place'. If it can really feel like 'multiplayer' whether online or off then I'll be doubly impressed.

Can see £500 hole in bank account looming in the 2nd Qtr 2007.
  • barchetta #9 5 years ago

    @ psychotext

Do you think the 20,000 polygon racetracks is correct? I know with normal mapping etc. etc. a lot of detail can be generated from few polys but that still sounds a bit low. To me. Anyway.
  • jmctavish #10 5 years ago

WTF is all this Commando shit!
  • JediMasterMalik #11 5 years ago

Great episode, Motorstorm looks excellent, they've certainly put alot of thought into it.
  • Psychotext #12 5 years ago

barchetta: Well, it's just my opinion but having seen it running now I don't think it looks great. Player reports (of the demo) have pretty much universally slated it (even ps3 fans) too. It's actually a shame cos I was quite excited about this one. I'll give this GAGS thing the benefit of the doubt for now but it doesn't sound like anything particularly new. I really think it's too early for people who haven't played it to start talking about the revolutionary AI.

I don't like hype, but I really want to like this game. = /

Oh, and UncleLou - You might not have seen a racing game look that good, but if you haven't seen any other games looking that good then you either haven't been playing the latest releases or you've had your res set to 800 x 600.

(Usual disclaimer, buying all next gen consoles yada yada)
  • Psychotext #13 5 years ago

Oh, I'll also say this. The demo isn't the finished game (it's pretty much what the Japanese get though) so I'm hoping for far more from the finished product.
  • Pooley #14 5 years ago

    Good show!

Was the fighting in the mosh pit pre-rendered, or in-game?

Just watched the 1Up show earlier, and this makes a refreshing change from the "Me! Me! Me!" 1Up journo's.

And no mention of Halo 3 or Gears of War!
  • Bm1987 #15 5 years ago

great show ! Why not a video podcast?

There are some high quality vids for viewing pleasure. No sound though. It does look better than on EGTV though that's hardly a surprise. I liked the GAGS system idea, means things should remain exciting.
  • barchetta #17 5 years ago

psychotext: My comments were in hope rather than from experience. Is it a general slating that has been brewing? - dameplay does beat graphics after all.

Agree on the hyping issue - though the fact we all frequent forums like this mean we do have an interest in upcoming titles. Am trying to minimise exposure to too much detail in the previews I read in the hope of preserving some surprises.

People are gonna knock each other out in the heat of gaming!
  • Psychotext #20 5 years ago

barchetta: All I can say is that a lot of people seemed disappointed. Ignoring the frame rate issues a few said that it got kinda boring, but they couldn't explain why. Maybe it's a sensory overload thing.
  • stoopidgreg #21 5 years ago

great episode guys, the best one yet. loved the motorstorm bits - the game is looking far better than i expected. the in-car view especially makes it seem a lot faster and more realistic than other videos i've seen.

two things i'd like to point out about the show which i found highly amusing:

    1) the girl in the pit got pwned

    2) hilarious pogoing to guitar hero 2 :p

    "Wii-ing in every room"

That one made me cringe a little bit.

great show great show. looking forward to the next one. games tv is lovely stuff.

only criticism is the dialogue is read a bit woodenly, presuming because its only the 3rd eps though

  • urban #26 5 years ago

its reasonable mapping poly's but then you add the number of polys from the vehicles and you've got lots and lots of polys, i liked the clever terrain mapping they showed...very swish.
  • FWB #27 5 years ago

They should have located Motorstorm in Hull. Think about it.... speeding around in VWs.

Can you try and use the words "post modernism", "paradigm shift" and "juxtaposition" (or "juxtaposed";) in the next report?

What camera you guys using for this? I take it theres an external mic, right?
  • Xerx3s #28 5 years ago

Motorstorm looks effin good though. Really looking forward to playing it. Had a look at the mud stuff and I really can't see what all the fuss is about. It's all done with clipping and small effects. Although very cool and innovating, not something that is mind blowing in terms of technology.
  • tobi #29 5 years ago

    motorstorm looks awesome!
  • space_ace #30 5 years ago

    primal scream ftw!! \o/
  • smoison #31 5 years ago

Flatout in the desert with /\/\Ot0B1K3S!!!!111

Sucks the (Wii) competition was for UK residents only :(

    Great show non the less.
  • Carpathian #32 5 years ago

Very enjoyable show - much more so than many other sites attempts at similar. I think it's due to a large amount of actual content versus the "I'm the real star" ethos of other journos.

    Two things though:

"Tony Iommo" ?!? Jeez, you hoped nobody spotted that one, didn't you ! Blame the Stella all you want but that was poor. Did you realise you'd said it before editing ?

However, Ellie as a rock chick more than made up for that ! Yeah, ok, that paints me shallow but damn that made me smile ! Either be-wigged or not she was shredding for the pit !! ;o)

    Overall then:-

    Content + Rock-Ellie - Iommo = ftw !!

    Great work, really enjoyed watching.
  • Martin #34 5 years ago

Nice content but the presenter is trying to hard (and some of the jokes are both unfunny and unnecessary).
  • Solly #35 5 years ago

Uber, show gets better with each installment. Why all the bitching about the presenter though? He's fairly charismatic, some nice gags and puns with added "Partridgesque" cheese.

    Lovely stuff.
  • Chtulie #36 5 years ago

Motorstorm doesn't remind me so much of either Flatout or Smuggler's Run but instead quite a lot of the races in GTA. Chaotic, destructive, spectacular, but not very good at actually being a racing game. Too chaotic, too destructive, too much bouncing around, slipping and sliding and having randomness being in control whilst the player is struggling to be heard amongst the carnage of onscreen effects.
  • dk_rare #37 5 years ago

Dude, I love this! Eurogamer video rocks, now Eurogamer is officially my favourite gaming site!!!!
  • CitizenGeek #38 5 years ago

Needs more Rob Fahey.....and is that competition open all European residents?
  • twinbee #39 5 years ago

    Where is this Wii house?

    And can I visit?
  • Martin #40 5 years ago

@Solly: Well, in my case I can't really put my finger on it. It's just a feeling I get.

    I'm just not brittish enough I s'pose. :)
  • Martin #41 5 years ago

@Cthulie: Did you play 1nsane when it was released (way back)? :)
  • George-Roper #42 5 years ago

I like Excite Truck, its going to be much better than Motor Storm.

    LOOOOOOOOOOL!
    Edited by 1 at 18/11/06 @ 19:39
  • Avaloner #43 5 years ago

Excite Truck looks unfinished and boring. Way below nintendo standards. I hope developers don't start using the Wii control scheme as a crutch to iad their horrible games. Nintendo should be setting an example and instead they release a game at launch which is banking on the wiimote to sell.

Damn while typing I dropped a jelly baby and I just cant find him anywere.

This show and show 1 were great.
Show 2 was quite immature and reminded me more of certain american sites.
Nice to see a return to form and no need to ape around too much.
I like games, that doesn't mean I am juvenile...so keep up the high standard of presentation.
  • Ace_McCloud #45 5 years ago

I like the content of the show, but personally I'd like to see a little more debate from your staff on what everyone honestly thinks of the games that have been shown.
That's probably my favourite aspect of 1up's show, you get the impression the people are speaking from the gutt and its far more interesting watching people discuss games intelligently and passionately from their different perspectives rather than reading one guys rant... I think a section with your staff debating what they thought of the Wii games or Motorstorm would have greatly improved the show imo. (Not that its bad in any way in the first place).
  • peterfll #46 5 years ago

Very good boys, you're getting the format down to pat. I even entered the compo.

ps Hello Ellie in her rock-chick-cheeky-rock outfit. We need more of this in future episodes to attract more females to gaming.
  • dllord #47 5 years ago

  • smartgun #48 5 years ago

Motorstorm is the first PS3 game that's made me sit up and take notice. Yes, it's 'only a driving game', but in the same way that the incredible Gears of War is 'only a shooter'.
  • T4RG4 #49 5 years ago

I've no idea why people are so excited about Motorstorm!? It looks as bland as my flaming nan. I'm sure I've played something exactly the same before... wait... Yeah, its called Smugglers Run and that was boring after an hour too.

Okay, so it doesnt have to reinvent anything (GTurismo is always the same and I buy it) but this Smugglers... sorry, Motorstorm, doesnt excite me or make me want to buy a PS3 in anyway.

Too many development studios and too many devs on games when its hard to find enough good ones to fill my nans bungalow in the first place.

    Meh.
  • psychokitten #50 5 years ago

Aww, now I want to work for Eurogamer.
  • Raymeister #51 5 years ago

  • patlike #53 5 years ago

The next episode's going to be awesome... ;)
  • darshannon #54 5 years ago

I really love your show. It's informative, funny and very well put together. Oh, and it's actually getting better with each new episode. Way to go, people!
  • Grawcam #55 5 years ago

I really like the show guys, keep up the good work. There should be some way to download and keep an episode.

F.Y.I There were two SAS guys at the FUSE Rainbow Six run around with Warfighters.

One current, one former! This got hyped a little bit by the network.
Too tall to be SAS 95% true statement? It must be all those BLT's they eat!

FUSE-06 was cool, and an excellent gift to the gaming community. It was a risk for Ubisoft to put on, which took months to plan.
It was light hearted and fun to attend!

Get yourselves there for FUSE 07,
I'll need some company to rescue me from those Mosh Pits!

    EurogamerTV - Luv it!!!
  • NthSimulachum #56 5 years ago

Hmm...Motorstorm...will it be a Burnout or a *shudder* Full Auto?

Will see later I guess. MUCH LATER.
  • andyk #57 5 years ago

for me this episode really showcases that Wii will definitely not have games that I want to play, and if they do either the 360 or PS3 will do it much much better. I have said it before and the Wii is still looking like a one trick pony, if you have got lots of mates around then you can have great fun. Ninty are probably using a business model based on the karaoke industry - but how many of us actually take karaoke seriously. Perhaps Ninty should consider their emergency PR now - something like a Wii is for life, not just for Christmas!

Seriously thou, showing off motorstorm then a fleeting glance of excite truck can not do Ninty any favours. I totally agree with Avaloner, cos if excite truck is early code, they should keep it locked up as in all honesty it looks like a 64 game, I was immediately thinking about vigilante 8.

T4RG4: As for Motorstorm looking like smugglers run. What have you been playing! It is clearly taken some inspiration from Smugglers, but come off it, it far exceeds anything out there at the minute - saying it looks as bland as your flaming nan makes you sound like a idiot.
