Played RE4 before Uncharted, and it seemed fair enough. But after that any 3rd person actioneer game with controls as backward as RE4/ 5 is simply an utter pain to play.

As gorgeous as RE5 looks (and it's tres sexy) I can't get excited for it, because the constant feeling of enforced panic due to shit controls no longer feels like a valid gameplay device...more like a way for the archaic designers to avoid designing cool levels with mobile clever A.I. and a decent combat model.

I'd be surprised if this gets a good review here, if the reviewers can see beyond the visuals.

I really don't get why people disliked RE4's control scheme so much. It was easy to use and perfectly suited to the style and atmosphere of the game. Applying a quake/halo control scheme to the RE series would be very bad for the immersion imho.

He should have said that Africa may seem a "Far Cry 2" away.

As long as it doesn't have an escort mission. That's why I never finished RE4. That and the goddamn QTEs.

Hang on, is the WHOLE game coop with that stupid AI woman?
  • Bulbatron #15 3 years ago

I've got no problem with the controls at all. I think they're OK, if a bit archaic now. But I'm unhappy with the emphesis being so firmly on co-op, and the way that single-player now has to include an almost constant A.I. partner - especially since her mistakes mean game over. I didn't really enjoy the demo. Unless the reviews can reassure me, I'm likely to give this one a miss until it comes way down in price. It'll be the first time I've done that for one of the main Resident Evil games.

There is a very distinct possibility that the game may be near unplayable solo - unless they've improved the AI, after all your Gears team mates are very competent sidekicks!, - and an absolute blast co-op. Buyer beware...
  • Cannibal #17 3 years ago

Dumb development decision. It has put the game in a situation where the review score lives and dies by the co-op. It could be the difference between a 10/10 and a 5/10.

Plus, they argue for the controls because of immersion, but isn't Resident Evil about being on your own and trying to survive against impossible odds?

I'm glad they didn't change the game to suit the paranoid "racist" name callers. The game, of course, looks amazing! :)
  • elephant_stone #19 3 years ago

hmmm...im still in two minds about this game...the demo didnt impress me too much. maybe it was the controls?
  • rogermellie #20 3 years ago

I loved RE4 and I agree with the comments on the dated controls, but my concern is over the enforced co-op for single player.

The demo didn't seem that great after experiencing Gears 1/2, Uncharted and Dead Space.
