Fair dos, that's actually perked-up my interest in Vita. What's the launch price again....?

Pulls out bank card for pre-order!! Oh Yeah!!
  • linea #5 6 months ago

I'm kind of interested, you know. I've tried the smartphone route but I don't like having to worry about my mobile gaming killing my means of communication off.

If it could run Android apps I would be totally IN. Actually it wouldn't even need that, just a Spotify app really.
  • spazmo #6 6 months ago

@rotmm £229 without the ability to run most games.

You NEED a memory card to even boot certain games. So add £20 minimum to that price.

If this is whats required to play the next Uncharted, then so be it
  • Markitron #10 6 months ago

Ill be getting the hardware anyway but thanks for the heads up. Im really hoping your wrong tho :)
  • potter73 #11 6 months ago

I'm in two minds. Love the functionality/capability of the Vita and am seriously tempted. However, I bought the PSP when it first came out....after the novelty had worn off it started gathering dust (I've probably spent 2hours on it in the past 2 years) Don't want to make the same mistake again

If the Vita isn't too expensive, then I guess I might go for it...else I'll wait till 2nd Gen Vita is on the shelves (cos, I'm fairly sure they will release updated versions down the line)

UPDATE : Just seen mention of hte launch price.....well, thats my mind made up then (think I'll wait)

i'll get one, BUT where is LOCO ROCO for the vita????
  • billy-beauts #13 6 months ago

All they need it one killer app, and the rest will fall into place. Could well be COD.

It looks good, i could be tempted..

i just got a feeling the price of games will put me off.
  • Arwin #16 6 months ago

For gaming, I don't think a device without two analog sticks or buttons is going to directly compete with the Vita for quite a while, not to mention all the other stuff like killing your phone battery. I think I can get a nice 30 minutes of 3D graphics gaming out of my iPhone? That something like Uncharted or any first person shooter could ever work properly just with a touch screen?

The biggest flaw of the original PSP was having just one analog nub, and not a great one at that. Will be really interesting to see now that the control input part has been sussed, as this thing has everything: dual analog, vibration, gyro, front and reach multi-touch, front cam, rear cam ... crazy.

Not to mention that looking at LBP2 Vita, that seems it could match a lot of iOS games all by itself.
  • BM #17 6 months ago

As an Xbox and Nintendo man, I've got to say I think it looks bloody great. If they'd have included HDMI out in it I'd have snapped their hands off
  • mcmothercruncher #18 6 months ago

    It's too expensive for me.

And, it looks a bit too much like the PSP no?
It needed an exciting new design to step a touch further away from the taint.
  • RawNinjaKid #19 6 months ago

If battery life is only 3 hours; how the hell can smartphones cope if the experiences were similar?

    Common sense, folks.

Right now the 3DS is okay for my portable console needs.

  • ryandsimmons #20 6 months ago

@RawNinjaKid The 3ds that has a battery life of two hours? Made it pointless as any sort of portable device for me.
  • TelexStar #21 6 months ago

Good video. Looks to be shaping up very nicely. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be playing an AR fighting game standing on top of a tall building though. That's an accident waiting to happen, surely?
  • mkreku #22 6 months ago

Spotify, GPS apps, Google maps, access to Android market, Skype and Playstation Vita games in the same package? Sounds like a must-have for me, if it's true.
  • FortysixterUK #23 6 months ago

As usual. it looks lovely but its price around £129.99 above what it's worth.
Then add a memory card? £10-£20?
Does it play your old PSP disc based games ?
If not, does that mean that ALL purchases will be at full retail? ( downloads or memory card based games )
I dunno, I'm just not enough of a handheld gaming platform gamer I think.
Good luck to those of you that are.
  • Thetchedpants #24 6 months ago

Have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of Sony, but the Vita looks absolutely breathtaking and promising. Only thing that nags me, and is the reason that I'm probably not going to buy it, is the poor battery life. People are complaining about battery life on the Nintendo 3DS and that is about the DOUBLE of what PS Vita is capable of, so yeah.. It's not a handheld without good battery life. I want to be able to take my handheld with me on trips, on the bus etc.. If it runs out of battery after two hours, whats the point?
  • NHDavid #25 6 months ago

@BM yes, no HDMI but is that really necessary?
  • MoGamer2006 #26 6 months ago

Has there been any indication of UK pricing for software yet?
  • MoGamer2006 #27 6 months ago

BTW, why did Spazmo get negged? He's not wrong, is he?
  • mrhand #28 6 months ago

    Edited by mrhand at 02/12/11 @ 12:40
  • RunningMan #29 6 months ago

@Thetchedpants : Thought the stated battery life was 5 hours? May have to reduce the brightness and turn off wifi, but it's comparable to most smart phones.
  • callum9999 #30 6 months ago

@FortysixterUK - No, it's DEFINITELY worth £229. You may not think it's worth it for you personally (I'm questioning that myself), but that doesn't change anything. I wouldn't consider buying an Aston Martin - doesn't mean the car itself isn't worth it, just not worth it for my personal circumstances.

Why do UMDs not count as "full retail" but games on memory sticks do?
  • BM #31 6 months ago

@NHDavid HDMI out isn't necessary, you're quite correct. It's just something I would have liked to have seen in there seeing as PS3 esque graphics are promised. It would be nice to use the Vita as a controller effectively, and enjoy the game on a big sceen.

  • patch #32 6 months ago

@MoGamer2006 I think he got negged because there hasn't been any confirmation that you definitely need a memory card for some games to boot, so file under rumour & speculation. It's all come from Kotaku Japan and they haven't given their source. Here's an andriasang article for information, and this one's just as interesting :)
  • makeamazing #33 6 months ago

Right now the 3DS is okay for my portable console needs.

Well you know that's your opinion, its not necessarily others. Personally i think the DS is aimed too much at kids and the graphics are pretty poor, i like a more indepth game play experience. So for me I will get a Vita.
  • orangpelupa #34 6 months ago

  • miiiguel #35 6 months ago

Looks very good, probably will end up buying one. But first things first, and that Lumia 800 surely comes first.
  • ShiftyGeezer #36 6 months ago

No video. Did anyone ask why the Vita memcards are like 4x what an SD card costs?
  • Murbal #37 6 months ago

LBP looks fantastic. Would probably give Motorstorm RC a pop too - definite Micro Machines vibe. Reality Fighters? Not for me.

Certainly an intriguing package though, and as a PSP fan I'll be looking to get one at some point in 2012.
  • Murbal #38 6 months ago

Also, when you factor in the cheapest ipod touch is still £150 the price is pretty reasonable for the tech you're buying into.
  • Darksjeik #39 6 months ago

Why you SHOULDN'T buy a Vita:

99% of the games will be touch and gyroscopic mini kiddy games sold at full price. And that's before you store them on your 129 euro 32GB memorycard.

I'll buy one in a year when they are revised to a 50 euro cheaper improved slim and light model and there's a decent library of hardcore games available.
  • layleeloo #40 6 months ago

Video doesnt work for me in Firefox, IE, Safari or Chrome? Just a black square with no controls?
  • sfp_noodle #41 6 months ago

The PS Vita is listed at an attractive price at zavvi.com. Wi-fi version is listed at £199.99 so get your pre-orders in! 3G version is £249.99 for those interested.
  • DanC89 #42 6 months ago

I'm still not sold..don't get me wrong, I love(d) my PSP. But for the amount of travelling I do (added onto my travel sickness issues) I can't justify getting one. I used to play my PSP at home more often than not and why should I when I've got a PS3 and a 360? (and dare I say it..Skyrim!)
  • Ror1984 #43 6 months ago

I've already got about £300 set aside for this, I'm just waiting to see if there will be any decent bundles.

The battery life estimates do worry me somewhat, but then I did manage to get more than five hours out of my 3DS the other day, with wireless off and brightness at 2, so hopefully the Vita will be about the same.

    'rear-touch games'

    haha
  • BishBashRoss #49 6 months ago

Sony target kids with rear touch technology.
  • cheeky-sod #50 6 months ago

  • manic_mouse #51 6 months ago

@FortysixterUK £129.99 above what it's worth? I'm pretty sure that Sony are taking a loss on these.

It has a better CPU, GPU and more RAM than the iPad. Great screen, lovely design. For around half of what an iPad costs! The hardware is GREAT value.

There is no way it's overpriced. Yet again an example of the entitlement attitude of gamers that annoys me so. You know not everything's free. And there's nothing wrong with paying someone for a good product.
  • SniperZoz #52 6 months ago

"if someone can create a LittleBigPlanet experience on an iPhone ... i'll take my hat off to them"

I really wish one of the iOS developers picks up on this .... cos' i positive something like LPB is possible on an iPhone/iPad ....

The success of this will be determined solely on price ... also - i think the biggest competitor they have is iPad!

I want to like VITA ... it's sort of compelling to have a dedicated gaming device ... but I'm getting my "portable" gaming fix from my iPad ... once I'm home .... I can use PC/Xbox .... so really don't know about this!
  • Afro_Matt #53 6 months ago

@FortysixterUK you thinksomthing like this should be £100??? you need to check numbers there, its looks to be a very similar experiance to a ps3 with lots of extra technological features like two touchscreens, 5 in oled display, not to mention the amount of processing power this will have compared to other portable games markets, I think that £229.99 is a very fair price :)
  • mousearmyone #54 6 months ago

  • fillip2k #55 6 months ago

  • orangpelupa #56 6 months ago

man... i though with that video title, EG will do serious coverage and interview.

    This video?
not like that at all, this is like an ad for VITA....
  • orangpelupa #57 6 months ago

@manic_mouse the PS Vita itself is not overpriced, i suspect sony even sold it at loss

BUT, the accessories is overpriced. you can get Fast microSD card with 1/4 (rought estimation) of the PS VITA Memory card price....
  • onyxbox #58 6 months ago

my biggest concern is that it has a similar strategy to PSP as in providing "Console-Like" experiences on a hand held and I'm not entirely sure I want that.

My gut feeling is that now the 3DS is floating around the £120 mark, has a rugged and practical design and it's library is beginning to include some of the staple games.. the PSP-V could be in for a bit more of a challenge than initially expected.

That being said... I'll probably get one soon after launch :)
  • erasr #59 6 months ago

There's two answers that would be a massive success: Modern Warfare Vita and FIFA 12 Vita.
  • makeamazing #60 6 months ago

Right now the 3DS is okay for my portable console needs.

@RawNinjaKid, the 3DS might be perfect for your needs, but for other people it doesn't. For example for me personally (this is just my opinion).. i think the 3DS is aimed mainly at kids, and there are literally no games that i want on it. I think the Vita does have the games i want (I like uncharted etc and other Sony games.

So though i respect you don't want a Vita and that the 3DS fills your needs, it doesn't fill the needs of others...including mine.
  • mal #61 6 months ago

Hmm, Motorstorm looks nice, but if I wanted to play Motorstorm on the move I'd already have bought a PSP. LBP is probably pretty good, but it's not enough to sell the system to me; ditto for Uncharted. And Reality Fighters looks a bit pap to be honest.

Wipeout 2048 is a good game, but to be honest I'm still a way off completing half of Wipeout Fury.

Vita is not looking like a day 1 purchase to me at the moment I'm afraid.
  • Ajent #62 6 months ago

    @Darksjeik State your source.

Unless you're just talking BS. Basis the launch line-up, what is your reason for stating that 99% (therefore, ALL the games at launch) will be 'kiddy games'?

You say I will have to store them on my 129 Euro mem card? What 129 Euro mem card? I think I'll put them on my 44 Euro mem card instead thanks.

Going back to your comment on the quality of the games... You state that you will wait for more 'core' games to come out. I take it Uncharted, Wipeout, LBP2, ModNation Racers and Unit 13 aren't hardcore enough for you? Not to mention the announced games in development - Killzone, Resistance, Bioshock, Streetfighter X Tekken, COD, Mortal Kombat, Oddworld: Strangers Wrath...

I've no issue with people having opinions, but you come on here spouting made up crap and misleading people with rubbish...

If I'm wrong, prove it. State your source.

PS Vita will be awesome. I have a 3DS and an iPhone. They are both good in there own ways. I will get to play Mario, Zelda and co. on my 3DS and I get to play interesting throw away tat on my iPhone. But when I go on long trips/ holidays, I will be able to have a 'core' game experience on my Vita, save my progress to my cloud saves and then continue my game when I get home on my PS3.

    PS Vita will be awesome.
  • callum9999 #63 6 months ago

@Thetchedpants By no means ideal but you can carry a spare battery. That's what I do with my PSP.
  • Ironic_War_Criminal #64 6 months ago

Saw the memory card prices, laughed, went out and bought a 3DS instead.
  • Felbridge #65 6 months ago

  • Rodster #66 6 months ago

The question should be why buy a PS Vita? It's $250, the battery life is 3-5 hours, can't change the battery, you need to buy a memory card and the games go for $40.

So you want my answer? :p

As much as I'm tempted, after being burned with the 3DS price drop, I can't think the same will happen to this too. Besides after playing all 3 Uncharted's, both Little Big Planets and being able to purchase Motorstorm RC on the PS3 the same day it comes out on Vita, those launch titles aren't the biggest must have's.

I'll wait till it's around 129 including a memory card me thinks..
  • jamesi #73 6 months ago

i love that they are so dismissive of 59p apps.a lot of the games just look like portable bite size versions of ps3 games @30+ quid.most DO look like games id only play for 10 mins then get bored! ie motorstorm rc looks like a 59 p app i already have.not all apps are only good for 10 mins.i loved the psp because it was something new and original but this isn't its the same games!and now i have an ipod for quick bite sized gaming.sure ipod controls are fiddly but so was psp. the market has changed significantly.also it does nothing that makes me go WOW i really need to get one
  • gustave154 #74 6 months ago

Holy shit this thing is amazing. Only negative is the high memory card prices....
Oh well 4GB is enough i guess =]
  • Lamb #75 6 months ago

Would have preferred a 7" tablet with physical controls. Like that Wii U controller tablet.

I believe the games will be phenomenal, however the price, battery, proprietary memory, and lack of time won't make this a day one purchase if bought.

Getting back to the issue of Android gaming. Google did a very smart thing by making all purchases from the Android Market transferable to your Android devices.
Further Nvidia is really pushing its Tegra platform and quadcore devices like the Asus Prime are going to be just as capable as the Vita.

    http://www.gadgetwiki.com/20111116/asus-transformer-prime-tablet/

Also games like ShadowGun and Pinball Deluxe are an excellent retort to the overpriced games we are sure to see on the Vita if 3DS games prices are anything to go by.

So Vita Pita, Android Pizza? Time will tell. :p :D
  • Ed_Zeppelin #76 6 months ago

The memory card prices are a warning to me, and a key reason I'm not now looking at this for a day one buy.

The other big one is the prices of games. More than £30 for the big games and I'll wait, or more likely never bother at all.

As iPads etc get more powerful the games they're offering are getting closer to the big games on things like PSP. Real Racing 2 is a great example and costs a fraction of the proposed psp prices. Does the PSP really provide that much extra value?

    I'm not convinced.
  • Widge #77 6 months ago

I care NOT about any of those points bar #3, which is the critical one for me.

It looks like a wonderful machine with a great launch library and you can't detract from that, try as you might.
  • Mchief22 #78 6 months ago

@Thetchedpants the 3ds doesn't have double the battery life of Vita mate, they work out at about the same!
  • Mchief22 #79 6 months ago

@lollage 1. not true they do boot, you just can't save lol
    2. the price of other accessories haven't been announced yet, so where did you find this info?
    3. not true it's tied to your memory cards not the system.
    4. fair enough on that one :-)
5.If you want a portable version why would you want the PS3 version? and how do you know the PS3 version's are cheaper?
    6. I don't think the price of games has been announced yet in the UK.
