This looks great. No More Heroes 2, also. Time to dust off the Wii.
  • darkmorgado #2 2 years ago

Between this, Metroid: Other M and Mario Galaxy 2, it looks like a good year for the Wii. Let's hope there's even more to come

Cannot wait for this. Sometime mid Feb in Australia. Assuming some fuckwit doesn't ban it. :(
  • TopKatt #4 2 years ago

Got this preordered, first Wii game that I've been excited about in ages.

Looks great, why they can't make more games like this on the wii, instead of half the wigly trash they churn out is beyond me!
  • mkreku #6 2 years ago

Haha, I'd be ashamed to see how that policewoman/nurse would look like if they delved into my mind.

Hopefully this will be a big success and they'll make more of the Silent Hill games this way. IMO it's tied with 2 as the best in the series, but probably has the best storyline. Any self-respecting Wii owner has to have this game in their collection. First game in years/ever I didn't stop for 6hrs or so until it was complete. A masterpiece.

Can anyone tell me whether there's really only one enemy in the game (the human shaped one) just with some minor variations? I herd it on the internets somewhere.
  • NunianVonFuch #9 2 years ago

@Nikanoru Yes that's true, but they're very well done and you flee from them rather than fight so if you're getting up close and personal to see what they're like then you're doing it wrong!

Please don't tank. Please don't tank. Please don't tank. Please don't tank. Please don't tank.....

as pointed out in the podcast, one of two games for the Wii that EG are doing extensive coverage of in coming months. If we want any more Wii games like this, it needs proper marketing behind it. That means TV slots. Yeah it's expensive, but if a game is released for the most popular console, about a respected IP which casual gamers will recognise because they've seen the film, doesn't merit a TV campaign, what third party game does?

I live stateside so already have this game. I'm really enjoying it despite its flaws (and it does unfortunately have a fair few - linearity being the main one)
  • Nikanoru #12 2 years ago

It's linear? As a remake of the most nonlinear and immersive title in the series? Jesus F-ing Christ, why does it have to be one-track linear shit every single time? I know almost all games these days (at least the ones that aren't empty, soulless randomly generated sandboxes) are practically on-rails or might as well be, but I guess in this case I expected different because the game was based on the first (and IMO the best) in the series...

Also I wonder how this game can be scary or even halfway suspenseful if you know exactly what every threat is going to be, right from the beginning. Especially near the end after having seen the same monsters many times, surely?

I wish this game could have MW2's sales, it deserves them. One of the most affecting games ever made.
  • Zebula77 #14 2 years ago

PSP version of this is already available from the US Store. Very tempted to get that, tho I'm shooting for the PS2 one. Will have to check my bank account. :p

Will buy. Plenty of Wii games I want this year..although there would be one more if Excitebots got a PAL release .
  • Cappy #17 2 years ago

They've done themselves a disservice marketing this as a 'reimagining'. Some people have assumed it's a remake also.

In truth Shattered Memories is neither, the starting point is the same, a car crash and a search for a missing daughter, beyond that Shattered Memories diverges, whilst you are still following a bread crumb trail through Silent Hill with a few familiar faces to be seen, it is very much it's own story.

It's probably the most effective bit of story telling in the series since Silent Hill 4, though not for everyone since the game is seriously flawed.

I'm well excited about this. Pre-order on zavvi for £25 (unless anyone knows cheaper.)
  • NunianVonFuch #19 2 years ago

@Nikanoru because the monsters are very well done and pretty damn scary. I remember in Silent Hill 2 especially, most of the other monsters were passable, not really that scary. But when pyramid head shows up the fear factor goes through the roof. So kinda like that, especially cos you can't just empty a couple of clips into them, oh no. These monsters will not stop, ever. Until you are dead. Or escape, whichever ;-)

Finished playing this on PSP last night. It really is superb. As a long-time fan of the series (played them all, started wirh SH2 in 2001) I can't say I expected it to be good, especially as it was made by the same studio as the awful Origins, but it surpassed all my expectations. It's not as good as 1-4, but it's a brilliant 5-star game in its own right.
  • Zebula77 #21 2 years ago

I enjoyed Origins tho. Certainly more as a tribute to the other games, since it played similarily, but I liked how puzzles made you switch back and forth between the Otherworld and the "real" world. That was a nice consept.
