    Hmm.

    Combat looks a bit suspect.
  • kangarootoo #2 6 years ago

    Yeah, it looks really pretty but I wasn't quite sure watching the combat going on. It sort of reminded me of Doom 3 a bit, but thats not quite a compliment. A sort of "we'll shoot each other, and hopefully you'll die forst" kind of feeling.

    I can't quite put my finger on it, but at least I'm not alone in having reservations.

    Actually, now I think on it I can probably expand my thoughts a bit. It sort of felt like I was seeing two games glued together. The outdoor stuff with walkers and troops running about looked rally nice, reminded me of HL2 a little. The indoor stuff seemed more stilted, as I was describing with my quoted thought above. Not so endearing.

    Hard one to call. Bring on the next trailer please, with some decent sections of gameplay rather than an action packed montage that doesn't really give me a fair idea of what the gameplay will feel like.

    I think the problem is the AI seems to be very much run at you and not much else. So by the time you've lined up a shot they are right in your face anyway. This seemed exacerbated by the fact that it seems to really be a corridor shooter (probably what made you think of Doom 3).
  • asphaltcowboy #4 6 years ago

    I think it looks more like Doom 2 than 3 (which is no bad thing for an action title)
  • absolutezero #5 6 years ago

    The stupid AI never really stopped DarkWatch from being an enjoyable game, so heres hoping its the same here. Still it does look alot better now that what it did when it was first announced, maybe its just because more has been revealed.

    Nothing extra special in trailer. Looks like a solid FPS. I have played the demo to lost planet, and based on that am more excited by it as a concept, but one never knows.
  • kid666 #7 6 years ago

    I've just played Fear: Extraction Point Demo and stopped after 5 minutes.

    What I'm trying to say is, how many FPSs can you play before getting bored of shooting at monster? I mean, I nearly fell aspleep playing Prey, so...
    This looks just like another shooter with better graphics.Sure would like to see there's some kind of a twist to resistance's gamplay, but doesn't look that way.

    Doom3 was the first thing that sprang to my mind as well. :\ Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed D3, but it's not exactly system seller material.
    I also don't get why ppl are so excited about the grahic's, they look like checkbox work to me. Up to date but nothing mindblowing (ala crysis). But maybe that's because of the lowres format of this vid.

    Never the less, let's wait and see how this turn's out to be.

    So here we have this...virus..mutating into all sorst of things that are actualy killed plain simple at the point of a gun...how is that different than having "insert SpecOPNavysealParatrooperComandoSecretAgent in here" ????

    Where is the point of this virus here?
  • asphaltcowboy #10 6 years ago

    @Xerx3s:

    Err... you don't think Crysis looks amazing graphically? o_0
  • Lex_Luthor #11 6 years ago

    I assumed he was saying the opposite asphalt.

    Resistance looks okay to me, no better or worse than any other FPS-a-thon. Those usually bore me rigid, but as Call of Duty 2 was one of the few I liked and this seems to take inspiration from that, I may give it a try.

    No, it does look amazing. My apologies for my lack of being able to express myself. :(

    "the AI seems to be very much run at you and not much else"

    Thats probably what put me in mind of Doom3. That plus the corridors (which I guess don't leave you much options other than run forwards, run backwards or stand still). There wasn't any of the duck-and-cover enemy behaviour that you might expect to see in Halo or Far Cry (which admittedly have environments that more readily support a high-movement behaviour).

    Well, maybe big hard virus monsters know they are tough-as-f'k and so don't see the need to be dodging around the place. So on that basis perhaps that means the AI is very realistic? ;)

    According to recent previews, AI is quite good and the smarter (more evolved) enemies actually make use of cover. Footage seems to suggest otherwise. Maybe previews are wrong or maybe they thought enemies hidden behind objects wouldn't make nice trailer material.

    But if the AI sucks, nice graphics can't save it.

    The main EG article on this has some discussion of the AI ...

  • kangarootoo #18 6 years ago

    @Les

    I would suspect the previews are right. I didn't think much to the composition of the trailer. All that cutting around didn't show me anything I needed to know, and it would seem that the editing has perhaps driven us toward assumptions about the game that aren't quite true.

    Bad show Sony. Do another trailer that shows off the game properley.
  • Les #19 6 years ago

    "Bad show Sony. Do another trailer that shows off the game properley."

    To be fair, for 95% of the target audience, this trailer will be more than adequate. To really show of AI, etc. the video would have to run for several minutes, quite a bit longer probably than the attention span of the average viewer. It's very important for gameplay but it doesn't make for a nice, spiffy trailer.
  • symmetry #20 6 years ago

    Christ! I've just had an epileptic shock.
  • kangarootoo #21 6 years ago

    @Les

    This is true. As a first pass "teaser trailer" its probably on spec.
  • Erinan #22 6 years ago

    Looks like just another FPS (and on a console :\ )

    Looking round the web for more info on the game, and finding more stills, trailers, and interviews, gave me the impression that this is going to be a lot better than this trailer indicates.

    Yeah, my sentiments exactly. The outdoor stuff against the bigger enemies & the cool-looking robots looks pretty awesome, but the indoor stuff just looks a lot like Doom3 gameplay; which I really didn't enjoy.

    I'm still looking forward to this, but it seems less-so the more videos I watch.
