Tabula Rasa - Introduction

Published 14 August, 2007 Duration 2:25

The beautiful introduction movie from Richard 'Lord British' Garriott's ambitious new MMO. Considering a new language was created for the game, we're expecting grand things of it.

Oh, pretty nice CGI, but no in-game footage (as usual!)...

Definitely nice CG. Wonder if it's Blur again?

No wonder they are not showing ingame footage - it stinks! Yes, it looks quite nice on the highest setting, but if you can't play it properly on normal settings with a rig that meets their requirements to the fullest... sorry I won't be playing this one. And don't get me started on the oh so innovative gameplay.

I found this game quite a fresh take on the MMO genre. It's not the second coming but at least it's not dwarves and elves.

Agree with Gurrah. In the beta, even at low settings, my uber PC went down like a Sussex girl! I hope they fix the graphics engine before release because it does look good at high settings (at 5 FPS).
    Good movie though!

Yeah, once the bugs are mostly zapped and theres a bit more spit and polish it might be a nice break from the usual bollocks. (and yes i have been on the beta so im not some clueless hobo, well not much)

Im with Rayn, no more elves please. Unless they are space elves ;)

    EDIT: great looking CGI ;)

From what Garriott was saying it sounded like something new and innovative - but it really isn't. I do understand it's a beta but even though the engine isn't finished, and the content isn't finished it's not heading in the direction I was expecting. Beta or not some bugs mustn't be - for example the Bane being able to shoot through walls, obstacles and pretty much everything that's supposed to provide you with cover. It's a game where you are rarely enganging in close quarter combat, how are you supposed to play it properly if the enemy ignores certain 'rules' of the combat machanics?!

I find it sad that it probably won't be what I was expecting but maybe it's a step in the right direction.

Nice FMV. War of the Worlds MMO, right?

As for the game - I haven't seen any footage, and I don't think I've actually read all that much about it.

The usual opening line of "we never saw it coming, we never stood a chance".

There is always the implication with these things that if we had all been looking at the skies a bit more often instead of watching 24 and Lost, then we would have been better equipped when millions of technologically advanced aliens scorched us off the surface of the planet from orbit.

...but we have to have something to do while we wait for the inevitable invasion ;P

that intro spanned War of the Worlds, The Matrix, Star Gate and a bit of Terminator in under 2mins 30. impressively cheesy writing.

the intro looks and sounds good despite the rehashed sci fi themes. what would be cool is if you didn't automatically start out with special powers, instead you are randomly assigned one and you have to complete a series of actions to unlock your talent. the only way to discover what actions you need to take is by observing what your character is unusually good at doing. this way not everyone gets to throw lightening bolts and some people may never figure out their special gift.
