Published 16 January, 2008 Duration 5:30

If your Smash Bros. skills are feeling rusty then we've got just the thing: this chunky refresher course in all things smashing. Of course, it's not that much use unless you're fluent in Japanese, but hey, we never dumb down.

I could buy a Wii just for this game...

Lord. Dear Lord, this looks so unbelievably good.

Forget Zelda, Mario, Metroid or any other game available either now or in the future: this game is the reason I bought my Wii, the game that will justify the time and money I spent getting it, and the game that will render all the other dross in the library irrelevant. Why? Because I will still be playing this in five years time, like I've been constantly playing Melee since its release six years ago. In a way, it'll be sad to retire trusty old SSBM, but honestly, with the sheer volume of everything-including-the-kitchen-sink modes, extras and secrets they're throwing around this time, it's difficult to do anything other than accept Brawl as the future.

    Please come out soon, eh?

MMMmmm im now officially interested, im probably the only person on the planet that didn't "get" the game on N64. Me and my mate rented it for a weekend and both declared "what a load of shite" and we are both huge nintendo fans.
Im looking forward to the single player campaign looks interesting, not bothered about online as my wii never finds my router even though they are 10cm apart!!! but that goes for my DS as well.

looks abit too hectic and messy for my taste, but i can see where the attraction is.. soul caliber is my thing, where you can keep a clear eye on your apponent. but thats just me. it has occured to me tho that wii's only really good games are with its mascots or exclusives ie: mario, samus(metroid), and all they really seem to do is chuck those characters into whatever game they can think of ie: mario and sonic olympic games etc, where are the outstanding third party games nintendo huh? this is not flaming against nintendo it's just a damn good question, i think the answer is that they are afraid of dumbing down the graphics for games such as assasins creed and the like so much that people see that the wii's graphical capabilitys are pretty low... dont hit me with that chestnut that the gameplay is what matters which is true but i play my friends wii all the time and to be honest i just want to play my ps3 after 5 minutes.

CHAOS_BROON - The "chaos" of Smash Bros. is, in my opinion, illusory - like any fighting game, there's a learning curve, which in this case comes from acquainting your brain and eyes to keeping focus on you own character amidst the speed of the gameplay and the busy nature of the battlefield. Once you've done that, the game becomes every bit as logical and tactical as any other fighter, albeit in slightly different way; there's still the basic issues of timing attacks, knowing when to block, parry and dodge and so forth, but there's also issues such as aiming, positioning, gauging speeds and distances and simply being able to change your strategy on the fly as circumstances change. It seems random and crazy at first, but once you've got used to its rhythm, there's no reason to feel that any aspect of the game is out of your control. I love Soul Calibur too, and having played both serieses extensively, I can't say that SSB is any less deep if you put the time and thought in...

I've never actually liked the gameplay of the Smash Bros. games - and I'm not convinced this one will be any different - but I still can't deny that this looks incredibly well done.

Story mode! Collecting stuff! Level editor!

    *pant*

    IT MUST BE MINE!

This is definitely the game that will bring a Wii into my apartment.

    @CHAOS BROWN:
"or games such as assasins creed and the like so much that people see that the wii's graphical capabilitys are pretty low."

The problem is.. with assasins creed (for example) - take away the stunning visuals (and they are stunning) and you're left with a shite game

But to say the wii's visual capabilities are pretty low is a nonsense - look at the above video, look at metroid 3, look at mario galaxy.. all stunning looking games imho.

kl i'll be playing alot of this game when im round my mates house which is like every weekend so im sure i will come to love this game, it's probly that there is alot to learn about the game.
@ smelly, i think my first comment came out wrong about the graphics, the wii is capable of kicking out some badass visuals, what i meant was that this only seems to be apparent in its first party games eg, mario g, metroid and indeed ssb, but lots of the third partys are getting lazy and cant be bothered to produce games for the wii because they are using things like unreal engine3 + full hd in there development and they just seem to be leaving the wii out, and in that sense they are afraid of dumbing down graphicaly because they dont want to make there games without all the nice shinyness and all in hd, no one is disputing that the wii can definatly deliver great games and certainly great looking games but it doesn't have the power of a ps3 or 360 so 3rd party devs are just pushing the wii aside, witch i think is unfair because it is clear that they can deliver on the visual side of things but the only people that are bothering are its first partys. btw i agree about assasins creed being crap.
