I want to know how the developers have been treated, before contemplating whether to buy this game.

    Noire thank you.

I was going to say, what's so stunning? Then I saw the facials.

I'll tell you how excited I have suddenly got for this. I had to actually stop the trailer because I didn't want any spoilers - just like I try and avoid long trailers for movies that I definitely want to see.

Hope this delivers - it's oozing class at the moment.

Gameplay, oh Gameplay, where art thy Gameplay?
  • AnsemsApprentice #7 1 year ago

The visuals and art style are clearly going to be great, that's a given from all the trailers and lovely screens. If the plot is anywhere near as gripping, then this will be something special indeed. That excites me, but without gameplay, it doesn't mean too much. If the game is out in May. . .I mean, you'd expect at least something. This worries me, because that makes me think "Actually playing it isn't going to be as good. . .it's a bloody movie isn't it?"

We'll see, I really hope it's as good as my head is telling me it is. Group hug!

    This game delivers stunning facials

all those questioning the gameplay aspect - what rockstar game hasn't delivered on that front?

this isn't just gonna be about the tech, sounds like the gameplay aspect may just release too many spoilers

Rockstar can do driving and gunplay and big, pretty worlds. I've yet to see anything from them which suggests they can make a detective game which isn't completely linear. I'm guessing where we've had 'shoot this' and 'collect that' we'll now have 'photograph this' and 'dust that for prints' - all pointless busy work leaving us with no impact on how the game plays out. Will I actually have to work anything out in my head? RDR was Westworld, this is Detective World - a murder theme park where you follow the path, admire the set pieces and maybe pick up some DLC at the gift shop.

Help us Deus Ex, you're our only hope.

Start of the music reminds me of Miles Davis' "Freddie Freeloader".

Some of the best facials i've ever seen...
  • hjarg #13 1 year ago

    Yes, bloody amazing facials.
Still, would be nice to know what the game is about... well, besides detectiving in LA and being the most anticipated game of the year etc etc. What we´re dealing with? GTA-like open world? Point-and click adventure? Heavy Rain 2? Apart from amazing facials, we don´t know anything.... Might as well be detective RTS for all we know..

    So... it's a playable L.A. Confidential? I'm sold.
  • Dave #15 1 year ago

Am I missing something here? I see a lot of enthousiastic comments about the facials, but all I see are OK facials stuck on crude heads... I even watched the 720p version, but I don't get it. Wasn't Uncharted 2 more realistic? It's like watching the mouths in annoying orange. I'm not saying the game won't be good though; that's an aspect I can't make out on the vids.

not watching the video and listening only to the audio, I thought this was a movie
  • NewbieZilla #17 1 year ago

    *Sigh*

Anyone else sick of LA Confidential being brought up? Look to the 40s and 50s, thats where the true, and best noir were made.

higher detailed faces on the same old puppet like bodies....

The video quality on Rockstar's site is better: http://www.rockstargames.com/lanoire/

The focus so far has been on the technical advances made by this production, but I hope that the gameplay is as impressive.

what do you think the chances are of the police captain being corrupt and is the one that is the mastermind behind the murders

I'm excited for this game as it looks and sounds brilliant, but to be honest, that trailer was quite underwhelming. The facial animations weren't all that expressive really. No doubt, it'll be a fantastic game; I have high hopes and a lot of faith that Rockstar can deliver a brilliant experience. This will do for Film Noire what RDR did for Westerns. However, let's take it down a notch shall we? That trailer was not "stunning". Give it time.

Ok, just saw the tech demo. Much better there. This trailer just gives us one second glimpses. Anyway, still can't wait.

for those asking about gameplay. Can it be that trailer one and two is actually a gameplay?

the gamepay is the cutscene, where the gamer choose the decission on-the-fly. with WYSIWYG. (maybe im just too hyped lol)

    EDIT
Btw what the connection between KINECT and LA Noire? O_o

look at the credit/copyright screen. Trailer One, and now Trailer Two, both have Kinect stated there...

are there going to be kinect feature?
like some simple face-scan? 0_o (like what "avatar kinect" do)

.com, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Crikey, Rockstar, sure got enough ways to "follow" you!

Ah, the trappings of modern sh*te life. I'd rather wait and see what the game is like, before diving head first into a potentially empty pool.

As great as the "facials" are, I can't shake the impression that they are just really expressive masks that all the characters are wearing. They don't seem to fit in with the rest of the world. The faces are leaps and bounds better than everything else in there, and as such, don't fit in with the rest.

I watched the two trailers on Rockstar's site and thought, "not bad". I then watched the "behind the technology" video and that's the real eye-opener; lip-pursing, eye movements, wincing, worry lines et al. That really shows some of what this system can do. I then re-watched the second trailer and then got a much better appreciation.

Sure, the gameplay will be in all likelyhood the standard missions of go to point A, collect item X, get chased, whack some people, go to point B but that's what happened with Red Dead Redemption and the story in that held together pretty well, despite my cynical belief in Mr. Marston putting up with some of those people but hog-tying and Liar's Dice made it all the better. Overall, the game will be solid and with their pedigree, Rockstar's solid is a lot more sturdy than most.

Before I go getting a semi-on about it all, I'll hold off a bit longer to learn about the game to make an informed judgement; something which I was glad I did with Alan Wake, amongst others after getting so over-excited and disappointed with GTA4 -- not that it was a bad game but just that it was never going to live up to the fervid expectancy.
