Splinter Cell: Conviction - Trailer

Published 23 May, 2007 Duration 1:51

The latest in the Splinter Cell series comes from Ubisoft Montreal: the studio which is making Assassin's Creed, and the comparisons are obvious. Use crowds and your surroundings to escape your pursuers in this very 'hands on' stealth adventure.

Hmm, I dunno. If I didn't see the title then I'd think it was a different type of game altogether. Hope it's not all about punching and shooting :(

Maybe this will do it for me

At one point we see Sam plant what looks like an explosive. I guess you have to be careful not to blow it up with civilians around... then again, wouldn't innocent policemen also count as civilians?

Does it look like the Hitman games or is it just me?

I like the use of tables/chairs... Seems very Jackie-Chan esque!

heh - that’s pretty cool. Seems that the Assassin's Creed engine has a variety of applications. :p

Why is Sam beating up normal people?
  • TheUnionFrag #9 5 years ago

Sam is a bum! Should have called it SC: Hobo Flashpoint or something

But it look pretty good graphically, and if the gameplay follows through then we'll have another AAA SC title.

I wonder how inaccessible it is to newcomers of the series? I've missed the last 2 Splinter Cell games, but this seems to follow an ongoing story of events that happened in the last game? Or am I mistaken?

Looked a lot like Hitman to me, except the combat shown at the start didn't seem very stealthy. Doesn't mean it can't still be good. I think SC needed some fresh air, so maybe this version will sort it out. I don't mind if they lose the stealth so long as whatever takes its place is fun.

Brilliant, its a perfect step in the right direction, it now top of my mus have title list!

Nah ZuluHero the last games had there own self contained stories although at the end of the last one he hung up his cape and called it a night working for the government. That's why he's a bum, Splinter Cell: Brew Day...

Crap trailer, didn't get me excited at all. The gameplay looks very different to Splinter Cell also. Not sure I like the new 'beat 'em up' style, but, that being said, I didn't like Double Agent either. I did like the first two though.

Why call it Splinter Cell anymore when it's nothing like what Splinter Cell was about? This will take out of the series any meaning of realistic stealth it once had.

There was an interesting conversation about Ubisoft on the 1upYours podcast about how Ubisoft seems to be melding different games together, GRAW and Rainbow 6, and now Assassins Creed and this. Maybe it's just the teams involved, but these games should be unique, what was great about SC was never the combat, it was the sneaking, why take it out?

Looks good to me, I like the ideas behind it. Reminds me a bit of Hitman, too. SC has become a bit stale, anyway, lately - so while I agree that it's a bit dubious to call it "Splinter Cell" at all, I find it a lot more interesting than yet another "normal" Splinter Cell.

I dunno whether the character models are inferior to those in the previous two instalments, or if I'm just thinking that way because Sam's not in his snazzy uniform and everyone's in winter clothes...

I loved Chaos Theory (haven't played DA yet), but as others have said, the trailer kinda misses the raison d'etre of the series -- take out the beeping bomb sound and it may as well have been for 'Bumfights: The Game'. I really hope this doesn't herald the sidelining of stealth in SC (and 'hiding in crowds', while an interesting and welcome idea, doesn't count).

So, a bit of a downer, this; hopefully they'll release something else to assuage these fears soon.

Hmmm. Not a very good trailer. I s'pose a shake-up for the series can only be a good thing, but the combat looks a bit comical here and it all looks a bit Bumfights at the moment.

Some more gameplay footage needed, methinks.

Assassin's Creed > Splinter Cell: Conviction

PS - it says 'Holidays 2007'!? They didn't waste any time, huh?!

  • azwipe #20 5 years ago

lol. i'm glad they incorporated the fighting from Def Jam: Fight for New York.
  • king_skins #21 5 years ago

according to the long piece Edge did on this the hinding is done within the crowd and you have to try and blend into the crowd... sounded quite cool
  • monkie_king #22 5 years ago

    Splinter Cell: Vagrant Story?
  • Bluetooth #23 5 years ago

So Sam's just a street bum who likes to fight? Oh yeah, I see the appeal.
  • bunglebonce #24 5 years ago

    This looks so bland.
  • Groovicron #25 5 years ago

I LOVED Chaos Theory. It's one of the best games I've ever played.

Double Agent I thought was pants. Just couldn't get into it at all.

So all in all i think this looks pretty interesting and I rather they change things around then fail to reach the heights of Chaos Theory with the same formula again.
