Is mark & execute basically 'press x to win'? Seems a bit dumbed-down if so.
  • wizlon #2 2 years ago

a bit, you have to earn them though, by pulling off stealth kills and such

Yes, thats it. An experienced development team put in a "press X to win" mechanic that is rubbish to play. Well spotted you.

My only fear is that they don't make it long enough.
  • lockload #5 2 years ago

    Holy crap that looks awsome

Like the other guys have said, the mark-execute thing is a special move you have to earn. Besides, I'm sure there'll be a Hard mode where you can't kill anyone!

This looks awesome, but please tell me they've included Merc's vs Spy's....

Glad you guys mentioned that they have to be earned. I was equally worried. There was nothing like the co op of CT and DA (original xbox) where you would count down from 3 and both pull off a headshot. Same reason I love the stealth MW2 Spec Ops missions. Stealth multiplayer is simply just... cool! We need more of it. This, however, looks a little too action orientated.

Framerate a bit sketchy toward the end but otherwise looks really good. A nice alternative to the single player campaign.

    Looks fucking wicked.

Is this going to be LIVE only? What are the chances of splitscreen?
  • Shinetop #12 2 years ago

All I see so far with this new Splinter Cell, is that it's exactly like the old Splinter Cells but with less stealth and far more brutal killing. The earliest videos focused almost exclusively on smashing faces into mirrors, and I have yet to see someone take somebody out in a non-lethal way. What happened to the sticky shockers and airfoil rounds? Or just laboriously sneaking past an enemy instead of killing them? Even in this video it's more like they're a guns-blazing SWAT team with cool gadgets than a stealthy team that is never even noticed by their enemies, which is what the big appeal for the older Splinter Cells was for me.

Absolutely agree, Shinetop, it's worrying me too.

Furthermore, are the guards in this video blind?
  • CaptainQuint #14 2 years ago

Looks like the AI is still dumb - I would expect a guard to notice a great big special opps guy hanging from a wall just to his left. But instead the brainless twit just stood there and continued his nice chat with his colleague, blissfully unaware of their impending doom.

Nowt much has changed here, move along.

The gameplay looks pretty good but the graphics are a bit disappointing, jaggy, tearing, dead bodies disappear almost immediately right in front of your eyes (talk about killing immersion) and the framerate looks very dodgy in places! If it wasn't for the fact that I *know* this game has been constantly delayed, I'd say it looks a bit unfinished. Not that interested in it now anyway as the two year wait has dampened my enthusiasm somewhat.

should,nt make any difference how late it is! A good game is a good game!
we should be more concerned about which direction UBI is taking this franchise, seems they are hell bent on changing what people loved about it in the first place.
the co op on CT on the old XBOX was perfect, why change it?

Lets not forget the early Splinter Cell games were chock full of horrible flaws. They were also fantastic in lots of ways, but I fear that some of the skeptics are wearing rose tinted glasses when looking back at "what made Splinter Cell great".

The guns blazing complaints that are being made are based on us viewing videos put together by the production and /or marketing teams. Just because they want some action in their trailer doesn't mean that we the gamers can't play in a stealthy way if we want to.

I've seen enough to believe that stealthy play is still possible (which I also prefer to the guns blazing approach). And what I have also seen is some interesting ideas and apparently polished mechanics that will improve my gun whichever way I choose to play the game.

I for one am happy to reserve judgement until I read a review at least. I've seen nothing so far that makes me worry greatly about the gameplay, I've just seen some videos that suggest the marketing team know that violence and action sells.

Yeah, you know, that's great, but "they didn't show that it ISN'T possible" is not enough of a reason for me to drop some cash on it. Also, marketing teams are supposed to show me stuff in such a way that I want to buy it. I want to buy a stealthy Splinter Cell game. They're showing me an action-heavy Splinter Cell game. Either they're not doing their job or what they're selling is not something I want.

So am I. I'm just saying that so far, things don't look good to me.
