Looks great when you don't have to move the controls.

Oh God. The city from Sonic the Hedgehog. Something tells me this will be as poor as they always are.

How the hell is that remotely or wiimotely (har de har) playable.
  • jamiscool #4 4 years ago

    That looks...insane.
  • asphaltcowboy #5 4 years ago

Well it looks exhilarating, but there's too much behind Sonic and not enough side-on Sonic so far!

    Tries... to... remain... hopeful...!

Why the fuck do they insist on doing 3D Sonic game? Jesus..

Best Sonic game ever was Sonic CD : Why not do a proper sequel to that? Sonic DVD doesn't quite have the same ring to it though.

    Go go sonic warrior etc..

i totally agree... they should keep it 2D but make it nice 2D like New SMB did or the Bionic Commando remake.

There's a place for 2D game-play with 3d engines... this Sonic game just re-enforces the suspicion that Sega haven't got a clue.

Does anyone remember ever controlling sonic that much in the old 2d ones?
  • LazyDan #9 4 years ago

It's surprising how hard Sega are finding it to grasp that Sonic isn't just about speed - that's what people who only look at the surface of it think.

Sonic was just as much about exploration and environmental puzzle solving as it was speed. Sega can't seem to find the right balance of all three in any of their 3D Sonic efforts.

I love the old sonic games and I can agree there have been some pretty poor efforts but I think you've all judged this far too early.

I personally quite like what I've seen so far. If it plays as good as it looks I'll be a very happy chappy indeed.

Looking pretty awesome to me, personally. It's clearly taken the on-rails-behind-view from Secret Rings, which is what they should have done from the start.

Third-person Sonic is fine - as long as he's stuck on a 2D path.

I think this is looking pretty amazing. Although there's a better version of the same trailer on YouTube.

I'm as worried about getting my hopes up over new Sonic games as any other fan is, but this is without a doubt a step in the right direction from SEGA.

    Pros
Side on sections look very old sonic

    Cons
    QTE FTL
Music and cityscape very new sonic
  • Incarta #14 4 years ago

Well, it looks like an improvement at least.
Thank God the 3D bits are on rails. It makes the wild camera problems less troublesome. QTE arn't that bad if implemented properly. From what I saw, they don't look too good here.

If anything, going at that speed will make the 2D sections harder, as you'll never see anything coming. That was the problem with the Advance games. Poor level design meant you would crash into things and die simply because you were going too fast to see them coming.

So IMO, both the 2D and 3D aspects have work to do.

The "photo-real" graphics are still bullshit though. This is sonic we're talking about. Put him back in that colourful world he came from.
  • smelly #16 4 years ago

i feel sorry for the artists..

"make this house look nice.. it'll only be on the screen for less than a second though"

Agree! But unfortunately it seems a lot of gamers wont buy games which they see as having "kiddy" gfx.

The perfect game for amphetamine addicts.

Looks like a step in the right direction to me.
I never really liked the 2D games either to be honest. Someone here said that the games were just as much about exploration and puzzle solving. Well, when Sonic is travelling that fast, the only thing anyone cares about is speed. That's why Mario games >>>> Sonic games. They actually know how to impliment puzzles and exploration without having your run interrupted by slamming into spikes. (I call this the Sonic syndrome, where stupid level design ruins the fun and the whole point of the game).
  • Mudo #20 4 years ago

Gameplay looks good but the environment looks dull and boring. Here's hoping other levels are more cartoony, colourful and imaginative.
    City streets are boring.
  • Wyrm #21 4 years ago

Why don't they take the fucking hint and make a 2D Sonic game.
  • Arcadian #22 4 years ago

    @Wyrm.

They do make 2D Sonic games. On the DS. There's no need for another on the home consoles. Plus, do you really think the mainstream public will be happy with Sonic being in 2D? It's the kids who keep the Sonic franchise alive, and 2D just doesn't sell.

Sonic Unleashed seems to have found a balance.
  • CHAOS_BROON #23 4 years ago

i cant beleive anyone actually gives a shit about sonic anymore, for fuck sake its a load of old crap, sega just cant let him go can they!? poor bastards. MOVE ON!!
  • chadzlad #24 4 years ago

the game is alright i used to be the biggest fan until they took out the chaos they give you 2 reasons to play training them up was the best picking how they look thats what i think made sonic good

    BRING BACK THE CHAOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS AHAH
  • Saii #25 4 years ago

I'm trying to remain hopeful but I've been let down too much before. 2006 STH was the biggest disappointment.

    Please be good!
  • gamerboy650 #26 4 years ago

i hope the game is as good as the trailer
