He aimed higher to compensate for bullet drop.
In this game you will have to consider wind and gravity just as real life sniper do if you want you bullet to hit the target.
Take a look a the the "Developer Walkthrough Diary": there they showcase all the mechanics far better than me.

It's a WW 2 rifle so its muzzle velocity is lower than nowadays sniper rifles: gravity has much more effect and so you have to compensate more.

This is sarcasm right? it's gotta be sarcasm!

SE 1 was one of the best stealth games ever made imo, it truly was a heartpounding and satisfying thriller of a game and ranks up there alongside Thief. For the young ones amonsgt us here's a flashback, notice the award halfway down the page.

I am not a physicist and sadly I can't tell exactly what's the muzzle velocity of a 1903 Springfield rifle...I gave you the best explanation I cloud conceive given my limited knowledge

P.S.
This is why I love Eurogamer: on no other videogames site you can have a discussion about physics and WW 2 rifles!

While neither of us know the exact velocity, I think it is reasonable to assume that the bullet wouldn't dip so much over 87m - it's a rifle, not a spud gun!

No way would there be such bullet drop at such a low range. A relatively lower powered AR15 in 5.56mm can hit point of aim easily over 150m

When shooting at an elevated target or one that is below you you have to adjust for the angle whi h is why he is aimi g above his head

@Kodiak215 far too close for any hold over. If anything he should be aiming lower.Bullets archs are different when shooting up or down.The adjustment you need is to aim LOWER not higher.
