Skaters simply do not fall like that. Especially doing the more 'simple' flat land stuff...if they land it wrong, they jump off the board and go into a jog (providing they're going fast enough)
I know it'd be rather bloody hard to have a different animation for every situation you crash in but atleast some sort of stand-up animation would be better. As it is, you simply lay flat on your face, seemingly unconscious until you press the A button :S
