    who ARE these people?
  • rauper Verified Managing Director, Eurogamer Network #2 5 years ago

I wish I could hang out with them.

    Er, Goldeneye with added arm-waving?

I pity the publishers who have to commission these videos, though. Demonstrating the Wii's best feature is going to mean a lot of unemployed actors will be asked to 'look like you enjoy playing games, luvvie' in the next couple of years.
  • Sid-Nice #4 5 years ago

You should have titled this video '3 blokes and a girl red sofa action' :)
  • Bluetooth #5 5 years ago

In reality, we'd be giving each other nosebleeds with the Wiimote every time we moved if we all sat on the sofa while playing. And that slightly homo guy who moved behind that fishbowl to take cover? Pur-lease. Why the hell would you do that? You're not hiding from anything, maybe just your eyes from the screen.

And was that an oriental bird? Again? Seems they're necessary for everything these days.

    OMG this games sucks
  • Shrike #7 5 years ago

As far as I can see, the greatest entertainment will be tendered by whoever forgets themselves, gets really into the game, and ends up taking cover behind a cabinet like a total twunt.

Is it just me, or is the selling point of the Wii about how cool people are supposed to look waving their arms and jumping around like fools? Nearly every single trailer for a Wii game is constantly showing people vigorously jumping on a couch, and hardly any in-game footage. This marketing approach is making me suspicious of the actual quality of the software... :/

It is all looking too much like hard work. I want to sit on my fat arse and play the damn game, not perform acrobatics. I do sense a desire to show cool people looking like fools rather than focus on what looks like a very poor FPS.
  • drivenstorm #12 5 years ago

I wish I could get excited by the Wii but I just can't. I like nice graphics and the ability to make use of HD televisions. I actually use my 360 to play DVDs. I certainly have fun on the 360 without having to wave a controller around. The Wiimote is the only USP of the new Nintendo console.

They really know what they are doing in the handheld space (I have a DS and it's wonderful - apart from the recently cracked hinge) but the Wiimote and strong first-party games is all they have. I just feel it will end up as another poorly supported home console from Nintendo no matter how good the technology is (I have to ignore the EA support as I don't buy their games).

Often it is wise to view something several times in order to allow its charms to sink in.

Sadly this video gets worse with each viewing. 70% of the video is of the people playing .I strongly suspect they are not even playing, as they appear to be happy. This looks like a game to be played when you are blind drunk, the drunker the better.

My fears that the Wiimote is a gimmick in place of an existing and highly successful control method (PC fans will argue that mouse/keyboard is best but dual analogue is a worthy second) are looking true. Ignore the Wiimote and plug in 4 dual analogue pads and all you have is a very poor fps with last gen everything. I hope I am wrong.

I was about to say how incredible the graphics looked.. then i realised I was watching the advert before it..

    Yip, it still looks shit
  • smelly #15 5 years ago

    >strong first-party games is all they have

Surely THE main reason to own a nintendo console IS to play these strong first party games?

Worth the asking price alone normally imho. The other two will both get the same games as each other, and they'd both love to have as strong 1st party selection!
  • DDevil #16 5 years ago

If anyone came to my house and played on the Wii like that, I would ask them to leave :-)
  • EmiliasHorse #17 5 years ago

The girl can come round anytime she fancies.
If only I had friends that cool.
  • ring_piece #18 5 years ago

    Is your couch wii-ready(TM) ?

-It's gonna take some abuse. Better tape some styrofoam to the corners of your coffee table too.

But I'm clearly missing the point. It's looking better all the time.

(sitting here with my Nintendo beer hat on, Nintendo t-shirt, Mario bed-sheets, 1up mushroom underpants)

    Heh.

lass is fit, the lad on the other end of the sofa would get a kicking. i still think they are trying to sell the ' friends ' american lifestyle. should have been some pizza boxes kicking around, loads of cans, two of them should have been smoking, and what man would wanna sit and play games when he has a girl on the couch. i can think of a better fucking game and it's been around a lot longer than consoles.
  • Triggerhappytel #20 5 years ago

Do you think we could actually see more of the game, and less of these fucking idiots larking around like chimps?
  • some1 #21 5 years ago

    agree about retards playing

game still looks like it has to be played to see how good it feels

and still tired fo same old comments about nintendo not knowing what theyre doing in the business
  • sailesh #22 5 years ago

i am growing to dislike these Wii vids with people looking like they are enjoying themselves - it doesn't actually get A point across to whether its good or bad.
  • Razz #23 5 years ago

Wonderful video! Love the target idea! Can't wait for some Wii multi-player action.
  • Steroyd #24 5 years ago

    ....

You mean the usual Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Star Fox and Pokemon culprits...

I hate to be cynical of Nintendo of all companies but the only thing strong about Nintendo's First Party is their brand recognition that's been imbedded into gamers for the past 20+ years.

Of course the odd new one pops up like Animal Crossing and Nintendogs, but compared to say Sony's array of new good IP's throught the PS2, I don't think Nintendo has an obviously better bunch of First Party titles.

The N64 raped the PS1 in that category though.

That video looked so fake, and the couch looks like it's a cramped place to be for a 4 player wii session (not to mention how much that will actually cost in the end), how the hell is this meant to sell me on the wii?

Red steel is a shit FPS... but because of the wiimote it's Fun to play.

    Rubbish.

Also, why werent they knocking the controllers out of each others hands? Thats the only way to play multiplayer!
  • andrewwd #26 5 years ago

Ugh. Nintendo, WTF are you doing? That ad was nauseating and the game looks pure pish.
  • mazzl #27 5 years ago

just look the video again, and concentrate on the aiming.. they seem to mis an auwfull lot. doesn't look accurate at all

still, i'm on of those people who would like to get a wii MARIOKART!
  • ChrisOTR #28 5 years ago

That definitely does look rubbish. Hasn't put me off Wii though, only this game.

  • GitSomE_UK #31 5 years ago

I hate these adverts, it makes me embarassed to even ask for a Wii.

I hate the friends + console = fun... no shit, I don't need to be told that. I don't need to be told to have fun when I'm dictated to or demonstrated to as to how you should experience the console my reaction is to stick the finger at Nintendo and walk away.

Anyway, most birds would get bored and want to go out, watch telly anything than stare at the corner of a screen with crap graphics.

And all those blokes needed a good kicking or better still judicious use of the katana that was behind them all on the sideboard.

Gah I hate forced fun bollocks.
  • Darkbeat #32 5 years ago

The game footage didnt look too hot. Then again, ive have not ever been a fan of the split screen multiplayer... especially for FPS titles
  • Sl1pstream #33 5 years ago

That is exactly how it will go, except those will be four drunk, fat guys and they'll punch each other in the face with the Wiimote everytime they get too close to each other in the couch.

Yep, it's a million lawsuits waiting to happen.

New marketting slogan "It's all fun and games... until someone loses an eye!"
  • sumanai #35 5 years ago

Red Steel's "the game sucks in so much the whole room is Japanese" -style videos are really irritating. Especially when they get things wrong. Why is there a tachi or a kodachi in the background? Shouldn't it be a katana?

All of these 'show how much "fun" people are having while gaming' -videos aren't working, at least for me, and I'd want no know how long it takes for the marketing division to realise it.
  • Tiiti #36 5 years ago

They should ban this sick filth. It makes me question why I want a Wii :(
  • Glitch #37 5 years ago

    those people look so pathetic.
  • kincaide #38 5 years ago

That is a terrible promo vid.

And where's all the Wii online stuff?
  • ManicDrunkMonk #39 5 years ago

I just watched the ad for Vice City Stories and even that looked like it had better graphics than Red Steel. Disappointing.
  • Perrythegreat #40 5 years ago

Bucko - mate get your eyes checked. Poor as piss (or Wii)
