So R* have taken a leaf out of DICE's book and are passing off already on the disc content as "DLC".

How is this already on the disc? It's a map pack, they're quite common.

Also, they released a FREE co-op pack for the game last month as well as the fact that the game itself is massive anyways. I'll never be able to figure out why people become such tightwads as soon as DLC comes out.

A "Map Pack" of locations which are already in the game world. These aren't new 'levels. But heck; if you're happy to pay R* twice for the same thing then be my guest.

Except that the architecture of the existing maps are quite different from their free roam counterparts.

Oh that's well worth 800 points then.

Bungie missed a trick with Forge - they could have charged people for their own map variants, which use "existing architecture".
