    Yea I have to say this could have come straight out of Fallout 3. Even down to the old 1920s music playing in the background.

    Incidentally why the heck would we only have 1920s music left after the fall of the world. Does someone have a stash in some bomb proof bunker somewhere for just this kind of occasion?!?

    @penhalion

    The whole idea behind a post-apocalyptic world with the 50s culture intact is that the cataclysm appears during that time. After its occurrence, progress is obviously stalled, and instead we're left only with what we managed to salvage from the past.

    RAGE, however, doesn't look like a post-apocalyptic world taking place in the mid-twentieth century, so this trailer badly represents an admittedly interesting game.

    I think the term you're looking for is alternate history. Some key pivotal event in the past went slightly different to our own timeline, sidelining it onto its own. FO3 is a prime example of this. As is Freedom Fighters and other games of this ilk.

    Seeing as i don't know enough about RAGE to comment, it does seem like its trying to 'cash in' on its success a little. Im sure the game will have its own merits thoigh.

    Im looking forward to it.

    @ ZuluHero
    I think the term you're looking for is alternative history. It forms an alternative. It does not alternate (and while I'm in my Grammatik-Schutzstaffel uniform, +1 for "RUNING?!?!?!";).

    Isn't it generic 'martial music' played through a gramophone-type quality filter, rather than 20s/50s/whatever decade popular stuff?

    Also, from what little can be seen, it looks singularly boring. Leaping enemies usually are.

    @yourmessagehere

    Semantics. You're assuming that there is switching back and forth (as in its alternating from one to the other), but thats only half right. The moment it diverges from one timeline to the next, then its alternate, it doesn't have to switch back again to make it so.

    Besides, alternate is the point it happens. Alternative is the result.

    What an idiotic trailer, I'm totally disappointed for this coming from id.

    After the buy-out all that's missing is the official announcement that this is a Fallout spin-off - which is no bad thing. Waiting for Quakecon...

    I agree that the way this is presented could basically be some Fallout 3 DLC. Will be interested to see what the final game is like, with its mixture of guns/cars, etc.
  • DaemonSpawn #15 3 years ago

    No way it could be "another fallout 3 dlc" - just look at the animation. And graphics (especially lighting). And it's pretty clear the game will be first person shooter - not some hybrid shooterish wanna-be rpg like F3. And by the way - this teaser should be watched on that aftertheimpact site, where is a suitable context for it.
    But even my id-fanboyish mind has to agree that it's not the best way to promote post-apocalyptic FPS... Kinda sucks really.
    But I still believe the game'll be great.

    true very fallout 3:)

    rage is not fallout-ish imo, because the characters have actually different statures. In fallout everyone is pencil thin and has the same height which looks really unrealistic and destroys some of the immersion.
