fluent and responsive feelling which is great.
My FIRST concern from this demo is the AI of the enemies. They seem to make
suicide decisions. They have weaker weapons and still attack . Also they don't
seem to have a group strategie. Each one attacks with the same suicide pattern.
My point is that each person in real life has his own pesonallity. The same thing
would add interest to the gameplay if for example one enemie was more conservative
and holded a defensive position and also called for help, while another could be more
aggressive or another one would prefer to ambush you or another could fake retreate
and lead you into a trap were you are surrounded and outnumbered !.
I mean you enter their enemy territory, They have the advantage of knowing their
neighborhood better than you do. They should be more alert and organized in their
attacks.
If you could offer more variation to the AI procedures the gameplay would be less
predictable and make you think and be more precauciouse each time with which
strategie to follow depending on the opponets strategie. Also I saw a mutant with
a mini gun attracking and standing still while firing. It would be better if he moved
left or right and eventually took cover behind the wall while firing. It would give a
less static feelling.
Finally I think that if you could add randomization in the battle sequences so each time
you play the same part of the level the AI randomizes the order and numbers of the
mutants, that would add great value to the gameplay. When you usually get shot and
play again the same part of the level you loose that feelling of surprise. You know for
example that from the left corridor two mutants will appear, from the roof other two
will jump and so on... Everything is repeated.
My SECOND concern is about the destructability abbiliteis of the ID Tech 5 engine.
In the battle procedures shown I didn' see any walls, bricks or pillars cracking or
loosing parts, or making any debris effects. These effects really add a lot to the
gameplay experience and the game will have a seriouse disadvantage in this area
if they are not implemented.
Anyway I'm sharing my thoughts because I think that with some clever AI routines
and destructability physics you could bring RAGE to a whole new level and make this
game really FANTASTIC.
Continue the good work and I'm hopping that RAGE sets new standards not only in
graphics but also in the area of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and destructability.
