Race Driver GRID - Jarama BMW 320si - Race and Replay

8 (3 ratings)

Courtesy of Codemasters, we have some choice Race Driver: GRID delights for your delectation today. First up is this race and replay combo featuring the Jamara BMW 320si. As much as we'd like to fill you in on the car's technical details, we know virtually nothing about cars and we'd only be robbing from Wikipedia anyway,

Now that looks more like the kind of racing I want from a codemasters touring car game :-)

I especially like the waythe AI is majing mistakes as well.

Much better trailer than the other one posted today, looks more like the Race Driver of old & not some dodgy PGR/Need For Speed love child.

Is this guy driving with the D-pad?

Looks miles better than the docks replay.

EDIT - and nice to see that they're using the 360 version to show the game off.

I thought the updated NEON engine was supposed to be State of the Art? It still looks quite 'meh' in comparison to the likes of PGR and GT. Although agree this vid is better than the PS2 like Docks footage.

big resounding "meh" from me i'm afraid. the handling looked way too arcadey and the controls seemed far too sensitive - the steering was either straight or full lock. perhaps the guy playing was just crap but even so, it shouldn't be as jerky as that. looks nice, replays look cool, but it doesn't look any more exciting than PGR.

Looks great. Toca World Touring Cars is still one of my favourite racing games ever, so if this is anywhere near as good as that I'll almost certainly be sold.

I wasn't exactly expecting simulation level physics from this game, but it looks even more arcady than I had feared.
These are race cars on grippy racing tyres - what's up with all the sloppy sliding around corners?

Pretty weak engine sounds as well. Watch some on-board footage of the 320si from WTCC - it's raw, metallic race car sound.

Looks like I might have gotten my hopes up a tad too high for this game - though of course it's probably too early to dismiss it entirely.

If this game includes the drifting part and you have to play it to progress then it's a no-sale for me no matter how good the racing section is.

Not bad, now just get rid of the drifting bull shit. Why you have to lower yourself to that kind of trash is beyond me. All we want to do is race.

These videos are poor quality. Check out http://www.gamersyde.com for 720p vids of both tracks plus separate ones for the replays. Looks great to me, the sense of speed especially is terrific.

Looks pretty enough but like others have said, the engine sounds are terrible! Especially after playing PGR and the like.

I'm also not to convinced with the looks of the handling. I love dIRT but from the outside it STILL looks like the car is rotating on an axis...something which really irritated me about dIRT too.

Nice stuff... ignoring the fact that whoever's driving is sh*t.

It looks good but I can't see it replacing Forza dynamically. It's a shame the market for arcade racers is so big because I know Codemasters can turn out good sims. I'll check it out if there's a demo but this is still a solid rental for me.

Codemasters - Please, make a proper car game. Don't benchmark PGR, benchmark Forza!
