Exclusive: Prince of Persia - Trailer

Published 15 July, 2008 Duration 2:05

The Prince returns, dusky maiden in tow, for his first next-gen adventure. There's all the usual leaping and exploration, but combat has shifted to a two-on-one focus, with duels against single foes the order of the day.

really don't know about that art style... black outlines just make everything look flat.

    Prince of Perisa eh?
  • Triggerhappytel #4 4 years ago

So are they just calling it Prince of Persia? No sub-title? Looks okay, I just hope the combat is a lot more enjoyable than the previous games. Also, it does wish it was Okami just a bit.

This is suddenly looking like a bit of a rip of Ico. The black goo, the helping the girl up over stuff. The lush greenery contrasted with the dark areas. The two major differences I see at the moment are:

    1. The girl follows you rather than being directly lead.
    2. The combat is more involved.

Heck, you even need the girl to stand on symbols to open doors and allow you to progress. In Ico the girl had to stand near the pillars for them to activate and let you through (until you got the sword).

    Original ideas my arse!

If you have to lead her by the hand at any point in the game I will not be impressed.

This is too much. Sorry EG, but I'm off to gametrailers, where I don't have to watch that bloody CoD trailer. I've seen it about 18 times, and I'm sick of the sight of the game. Is that really how advertising is supposed to work?
  • lambtron #7 4 years ago

Kanga has a point - can't you at least cycle the ads? :/

    @Kanga
When the COD5 trailer starts, just hit refresh. Page reloads with right vid without having to sit through a two minute effing advert for a two minute trailer.

uh not to rain on your parade what with the 'exclusive' n all that but I think nme has this same trailer up on their website

hmmm, it's not looking as good as i'd imagined tbh. it's werid... not as nice - maybe that's due to the picture quality.... we'll see.

i get a kind of ico feel about it, set pieces draw for aesthetics.
  • knightmt #12 4 years ago

love pop, though the headscarf is seriously camp.
  • rashes #13 4 years ago

holy cow.. .this is starting to look very promising. Definitely Ico influenced...

Does that work again? It used to, and then it stopped working (and my face turned brighton purple).

    /tests

Hmm, maybe it works again. Hallelujah!

    @penhalion

Seriously though, does any of that matter. I'd much rather play a fun game that wasn't original than a truly original idea that turns out to be balls. Yes I realise you can have both, but rarely.

If its a fun game to play, I don't really care whether it has borrowed ideas from ICO. ICO was not the first game to use a protection mechanic you know, and neither is ICO some holy book to be revered. It was a very good game, that is all.

I like the way they have went with the art style, really fresh. Good to see big developers taking chances. I never played the previous one's much, but this change would make me go out and buy this.

Holy fucking Jesus!!! This looks awesome! :o Gotta say, I love the art style to bits. To all ye bastards that didn't like it, just where the fuck is your soul? It's gorgeous!

Whoever chose this song for the trailer, you're the best. Sigur Rós (L)
  • Horse #19 4 years ago

Sigur Ros indeed - Saeglopur for those who don't know it, track 6 on the Takk album
  • Vasenor #20 4 years ago

I just hope they don't feel the need to make it "darker and grittier" like they did the last two...
  • 3william56 #21 4 years ago

Still not convinced by the art style, though it does distinguish it from Kratos et. al.

The big greek style windmills are an onbious signpost to Ico, and that is a very, very good thing (if they get it right).

"neither is ICO some holy book to be revered"
On that, Sir, I believe you are mistaken.

Looks and sounds very French... nice. Although not very interesting as a game...
