I hope the puzzles are gonna be more crazy, properly wacked out shit this time. They seemed a bit tame in the original.

Loving that these videos are all loading in HD on my iPad! (GT had a live HD feed for iPad too for e3)

There is no technical reason the PS3 version should be worse than other platforms however I think I shall wait and see what happens with Portal 2. Valve / Newell's past attitude to the platform hardly inspire confidence and they have a lot of bridge building to do.

    Wants. Wants bad.

Poor Newell ,it must have been like a knife through his heart to appear in a crowd of people he ,as ex-MS employee ,has been mocking for years and drop his pants like that.

Well ,at least they come to their senses.

come on... everyone knows EA made him do it.

The original was a quirky little piece of criminally underplayed genius, so I'm expecting greatness for the sequel. Will be getting it for the 360 though, especially when one considers the blatant bull-spin by Valve's head honcho.

sold on this one ... you monster.

  • bf #19 2 years ago

Valve announcing things is nothing to write home about, releases on the other hand...
  • Vortex808 #20 2 years ago

"B-b-but PS3 is too difficult to develop for, Gabe said it himself."

Interetsing, and in Sony's conference no-less.

Gabe - "PS3 the best console version"
This comment bothers me, it reeks of sarcasm. Up until recently, wasn't it this guy who bashed PS3's tech? Maybe he read one of EG's comments sections on the subject haha.

EA have learnt PS3 architecture Now, Valve will have as much support as they need, if not from EA, then Sony won't let this one crash and burn.
  • Blacklodge #25 2 years ago

PLEASE CAN YOU TURN OFF THAT HORRIBLE AND POINTLESS AUDIO ON THE FALLOUT : NEW VEGAS AD!!!!! MAKES ALL VIDEO CLIPS IMPOSSIBLE TO WATCH AND POINTLESS

"EA have learnt PS3 architecture Now, Valve will have as much support as they need, if not from EA, then Sony won't let this one crash and burn. "

This tbf, you can tell EA are really supporting the PS3 atm, think they've even said all thier in house studios now lead on PS3?
  • Ryboy #27 2 years ago

Well THAT has just made my day. Cannot wait for my return to the Aperture Labs.
  • Stiggy #28 2 years ago

sod coding for the PS3 engine, surely the hardest bit will be topping "Still Alive"?

Yeah, and given the nature of the first Portal - a puzzle game with no moving enemies (unless they're falling), fairly simple (but pretty) geometry in fairly small, enclosed rooms - there's no reason why it wouldn't perform very well.

From looking at the trailer Portal 2 looks like they scaled it up and added a lot of foliage and other background clutter but I have no doubts that it'll run as well on the PS3 as other consoles (well, the OTHER console ;) ).

You can be sure that Sony will Sellotape a couple of developers to Gabe when he goes back to Valve in order to help out too. This is a big deal for Sony.

I didn't get any sarcasm there. He said the PS3 version will tie into Steam and the Steam cloud (somehow), I think that's why he said it would be the best console version (presumably MS don't want to share with Valve and so the Xbox version won't). It may even be that if you buy the Steam version you get Mac, PS3 and PC versions to play as you wish (currently you get the PC and Mac version of games on Steam).
  • smirny #31 2 years ago

things would start to get seriously interesting if steam suddenly became pc+mac+ps3... form the sounds of it this isn't beyond the realms of possibility...
  • StooMonster #32 2 years ago

@sneetch: what I think is more likely is SteamCloud integration only for PS3, but this means that save files are "in the cloud" which means that one can access them from PC, Mac or PS3.

If there's SteamWorks integration it means that achievements etc earned on PS3 will also be in your Steam account, and vice versa with PC/Mac; it might also mean you can see Steam Friends and chat on PS3 too.

Edit: Just saw the video of Gabe Newell's presentation and he said that automatic updates are coming to PS3 too.

But I think you are totally right about Microsoft not wanting to play ball with that.

I think the problem has been that MS want control.. that way they can charge for services (abit like the issue with the iPlayer)... i think Sony have spotted a very good opening... and why wouldnt valve want to get cloud saves onto the PS3... if they cant get anything else (im not talking money here) to add value to the steam software then if i was in charge, i would consider changing my mind about my thoughts on that product. It really could be a great opportunity for both companies, i just hope Sony do more in this method...
  • fizzyfish #34 2 years ago

@Gibryl - Ellen McLain is still GLaDOS' voice actress, according to IMDB:

I love how GLaDOS is rebuilding the enrichment centre (presumably in a more devilish fashion). The scientists are long gone but the facility is fixed in her programming as part of her purpose. Nice touch.

The vegetation will add a wonderful contrast with the clinical feel of the centre, just like the hidden back-rooms and 'escape' half of the original game , while bringing the graphics and detail up to date.

A thought: if the enrichment centre has been largely reclaimed by nature... are we to assume that human civilisation never re-established properly after the Combine invasion? Assuming Gordon will eventually send them packing :)
