A damn lot better than the trailers they went with for the PS3 launch.

Shame we dont get the Kevin butler ads in the uk, sony ps3/psp adverts are very vacant from uk screens but wii and 360 are everywhere.

And dont get me started on those adverts for cross platform games that finish with "out now for 360". Sony really need to pull their finger out to stop the notion the games are only on one platform!
  • evild_edd #2 3 months ago

Good advert. It reminded me of their classic Double Life advert, though not quite as good.

    The World is in Play

I must admit, I like that strapline.

Good release trailer too. Sony back on song, it appears.

*sigh* don't turn this practise into fanboy nonsense - it is a tactic that both Sony and Microsoft have used.

Well done Sony! That is how you do advertising.

Oh I can already see people condemning the advert because it seems to disguise the realities of war and saying "hey people come on let's play some war"...

As for me, absolutely loved it!

Well done, a truly great ad which takes both its product and its audience seriously.

Makes me want to join in the fun all the more.

And, yes, best portrayal of "the missus" in a long time.

    Superb advert. Well played Sony.

@evild_edd 'Good advert. It reminded me of their classic Double Life advert, though not quite as good.'

That Advert will never be bettered.

    That was ace...

Great Ad - I want one now!

    :)
  • BradlayLaw #16 3 months ago

Nice ad but it doesn't really say anything about the Vita. You could of shown a 360, ps3 or 3ds at the end and it wouldn't of made much difference. But then I guess the same complaint could be thrown at just about every mobile phone advert apart from iPhone ones.

@evild_edd How on earth could that possibly be "fanboy nonsense". If there is anything worse than "fanboyism", it's everyone else being obsessed over it and constantly bringing it up...

This is a thread about a Sony advertising campaign. If this isn't the appropriate place to suggest new or improved adverts for Sony, in comparison to it's competitors, where is?
  • BradlayLaw #19 3 months ago

@Eldritch How about an advert showing the features of Vita and the games available instead of an abstract thing that can apply to any games console - that's what an uneducated public need. Whilst it's a "nice" advert, it in no way makes me want to buy a Vita (or lets me know anything about it).
  • spekkeh #20 3 months ago

bloody brilliant, finally going back to the double life commercial.
  • Mr_interesting_2011 #21 3 months ago

@BradlayLaw Agreed - the Ad is great for getting people interested in what the Vita is, but needs to be followed by others to show off the different games etc.

Perhaps these will come, there were certainly enough Ads for Uncharted when it was released on the PS3
  • Kygzab #22 3 months ago

    @BradlayLaw

I don't think you are marketing expert. I have feeling they have better idea what works on their target audience. Ads don't need to show features well, they are supposed to catch attention and make you interested, perhaps make you go search on Google or visit nearby electronics store what this Vita thing is all about. Leaving that curiosity and mystery in the air is probably much more effective than listing features in 1 min ad and trying to make people understand what they mean. It's more likely to just leave bad taste in mouth.

@Kygzab Works pretty well for Apple.
  • Eldritch #24 3 months ago

@BradlayLaw Couldn't care less about a simple product video, I can have a similar experience in any highstreet shop stocking the Vita anyway.

I think the point of that trailer is simply to make you feel good about playing games and associating that feeling with the anticipation for a new piece of hardware.

And I don't think the PS Vita is aimed at an" uneducated public".

@Eurocensor In essence, yes, whereas their David Lynch ads for PS2 were simply great.

I still don't get why I should rather want to play Uncharted on the Vita than on the PS3. Why should I care about challenging people on the go, when I can challenge them online? Why should I get a PS Vita? Don't tell me you need it for casual games, as those work best on smartphones that you carry with you no matter where you go.
AR is the only thing that I really am interested about in Vita, they really should have layed stress on that, how you could play AR games together with other people around you, changing your environment.

  • manic_mouse #30 3 months ago

@BradlayLaw I think you missed the point of the add if you think it could be applied to a PS3 or 360.

(Being that you can have these experiences anywhere - on the beach, in the train, in a salon etc.)

And as such the ad is brilliant. Shows what the Vita is about, and why it's different than 69p iOS games.

    ooooh please....
this is sooooo much like the old playstation campaign which was more subtle and much much better (Double Life ad) which also inspired the Call of Duty: Black Ops "There's a soldier in all of us"

anyways cool too see they are ripping off / copying their old campaigns....

it seems the 50 mil ad campaign is really paying off...
  • jonbwfc #32 3 months ago

@BradlayLaw No, that's not true. Apple rarely mention techy stuff in their adverts. They're entirely aspirational - they show people what they can do with the tech, not what it does of itself.
  • super_monty #33 3 months ago

Play on the tube and get stabbed in the face so some nob can steal your Vita.
  • trubadman #34 3 months ago

@RoOhDaMite Portable consoles aren't for everyone, so if you don't see the point or are happy with just having a home console, then don't invest in a portable console! ;)
  • BradlayLaw #35 3 months ago

@jonbwfc They show you the features and what you can do with the phone. Eg. Facetime - they show people using facetime and ways to use. Siri - they show people using Siri and ways to use it.
  • danhese007 #36 3 months ago

There are direct and indirect ads of which one is subtle and the other direct. This will not be the only Ad Sony puts out for Vita, this is an indirect Ad to spark curiosity, it is a damn fine Ad. Direct Ads will tell you features and games and price and release date while indirect Ads will grab your attention to make you curious enough to go search for the product yourself.

    This is a direct Ad
    youtube.com/watch?v=-C5cY9oLKYg
    youtube.com/watch?v=ADjMPGOAPhA

    This is an indirect Ad
    youtube.com/watch?v=DGNxHa0bqCI
    youtube.com/watch?v=mdWkKKSckNk

People respond better to indirect Ads, just take a look at the respose on the To Michael PS3 Ad and see how much views it has. That is because it grabs your attention and judging by how fast this Vita Ad went from 0 to 35,000+ views in just less than 1 day proves that. While the direct Ads have been up since 2011. Do you get it now?
  • ibenam #37 3 months ago

Does anybody know where I can get some double life memorobilia?
  • Felbridge #38 3 months ago

Very nice. Looks like a bit of money was spent on it
  • DakJaxter #39 3 months ago

That was a really great ad. I'm sure ours here in the states won't be nearly as good.... Seeing as our tag is the overly aggressive 'Never stop playing' Honestly, do we have to attempt to be badass at everything? Because it just doesn't work.
  • penhalion #40 3 months ago

And ironically only one person featured in that video would have the money to buy a vita in the first place or did the youth job market and minimum wages suddenly pick up without me noticing.
