Nier Replicant trailer

Published 18 September, 2009 Duration 1:57

Hermaphroditic partners aside, Nier Replicant looks very nice so far, although that creepy smile person is sure to give us Kafka dreams. Platform details are still a little sketchy, with the Japanese versions looking to be slightly different between PS3 and 360.

Like the design of the bad guys... hate the design of the good guys.

Good to see an action game coming from the Square stable, and I pray its decent.

I agree with the characters. Bad guys look cool and original, but the good guys are the usual teeny emo suspects. They have so much to learn about creating characters.

Come back Naked Snake, you must be the most mature japanese game character, that the japanese devs, seem to fear creating anything with wrinkles. Perhaps they have an age prejudice, I don't know. Guess its for the cosplay vote, character ages and those outfits, but that's still a lame excuse.

Story also looks (I may be reaching here) like its cookie cutter too. 'You the dude, save the girl for millionth time, and oh she's your sister.' Again, very cliched and 80's beat em up story lines, were so yesterday. From this trailer alone, many of the problems with some japanese game design thinking are laid bare. I just hope they don't mess up Front Mission Evolved and PE3.

Good news SpaceMonkey, there's a 360 version of the game that seems to be basically the same game.. but instead of the teenage pretty boy, you play as a Conan-esque middle aged guy with a huge sword, who's trying to save his daughter.

Not sure if there's any differences beyong that.. but it's definitely interesting.

Okay noted for the Conan guy, but I don't think Square understand what we want to play. Come on Square, the storyline is about as complex as Mario's save the princess crap.

Batman is one thing, but I see that Square have got those japanese development blinkers on again. This game is going to get lost in the crowd, it lacks flare and imagination IMO. Same fantasy cheese, different DMC style day. Hope is dribbling through my fingers for Nier.

Now, Demons Souls from Atlus, there's a game I'd love to play. Original, well designed and from devs thinking outside of the bs box, and they are japanese. I'd be honoured to have that game grace my 360, but this Nier, seems a bit... meh. By all means, prove me wrong Square.

that chick at 52 seconds needs a pair of slacks, we can see your underwear dear...

i like the look of this, alot of people hate the whole emo image thing that japanese devs love, but lets not forget, the average 40-50 year old man looks pretty boring, and unmemorable. short hair/balding, crewcut, shaved head, jeans, shirt, t shirt, football/rugby jersey fleece, etc

an intersting hairstyle/clothes, may not be relatatable to the middle aged gentleman, but it sure is a hell of alot more interesting and memorable to me...

game looks styish, i love hack and slash with huge numbers of onscreen npc's like ninety nine nights, hope this is good!

Not so impressive use of the UE3 there...

Looks nice, but Square unfortunately don't have a good track reckord in the action genre... But on second thoughts maybe the Kingdom Hearts / Dissidia battle systems are helping redress the balance.
