It won't be available here, but the replicant version of Nier is more tailored to traditional Japanese gaming tastes, complete with a less rugged lead.

kicked by a sheep, what a tough life.

I wonder why the protagonist here is so different to the player character advertised for the retail version.

Replicant is basically a version tailored for the Japanese market to make it appear more like a traditional SE JRPG. The reason Nier here is a young "non-threatening" boy is the same reason Basch got dropped from being the lead of FFXII and replaced by juvenile protagonists Penelo and Vaan.

Its a cultural stereotype, but essentially its no worse (or better) than the musclebound space-marine cliche so beloved of western developers and their "brogamer" core market.

I assume that apart from the visual differences in a character or two, the game will be the same in both countries ?
