I really hope that pop-up "approach selection" window is for illustrative purposes and not actually part of the game.

i'm glad they're only showing that one mission. i keep trying not to watch stuff in case of spoilers, but i can't help it.

Rirekon, I'm pretty certain it is. None of the longer gameplay videos or mission walkthroughs have any of that stuff, and you can decide how to play at any point, so play the level through stealthy and then think fuck it and shoot up everyone.

@Rirekon - yes its purely there for the trailer, its not a part of the game

CONFIRMED: The main character has absolutely no facial expressions.

Very Bladerunner art style, lovin that.
For me - stealth all the way. Previous two games had fairly poor gunpplay but it felt awesome sneaking around, shutting down bots, etc. I like getting in and getting out with no one having a clue I was even there.

    Looks pretty boring tbh :(
  • bratmandu #8 1 year ago

Colour me interested. Don't mind the ready brek glow too much, it's more subtle than Thief3's blue glow anyway.

@DefendoCroc: There's no way the trailer looked boring. Unless you hate this type of game (in which case why comment?), or you're just trolling....

The trailer looked good, but the play-through video a few days back looked far less assured (floaty camera, basic and rather straightforward choices etc). I reckon it'll still be a quality title but whether it can live up to people's expectations and rose-tinted perspective of the original is another matter.

Still on my 'one to watch' list but definitely a title I'll be waiting on reviews for.....

The main characters back up guy sounds like KITT from Knight Rider.

I think this is the next streamlining of a classic, unfortunately. Damn companies and the now common franchise trend, I don't like it. I prefer something fresh and innovative to try rather than investing my life playing a game just because is a franchise. I loved DeusEx 1 because it was innovative at that time. Sadly still is.

I should be hyped about this, but watching that all I can think is "meh".

At the risk of being negged unto oblivion I can't get excited about this game on this showing, sorry.

I'll be glad to be told if I'm wrong, but don't most of these 'choices' end up as just so many different approaches to (and death animations for) killing the same goons? 'Adaptative' to be distinguished from 'Aggressive' in that sniping and electrocution (tazer-grenade?) was involved rather than elbows and shotguns. 'Stealth', meanwhile, equates to choke holds, sniping and silencers.

That's just bog-standard weapon and melee choice, isn't it? That's COD and Killzone and Halo 'choice'?

    @Golgo

Deus Ex was always a slow burner. It rarely looked good in screenshots and trailers. The immersion and satisfaction had could not be communicated through trailers or even gameplay videos -- to paraphrase Morpheus, no one can be told what Deus Ex is, you have to experience it for yourself. I am not saying Human Revolution will be great, but these kind of games are always a tough sell, and they normally only succeed once reputation is generated by word-of-mouth. I am trying to not excited about it though; Invisible War was somewhat of a cautionary tale on that matter.
  • Golgo #15 1 year ago

@intpleeus: That's a very fair point. It would have been difficult if not impossible to convey the world-richness and immersion of the original Deus Ex in any kind of trailer. But I do think they're under-selling the Deus Ex universe if they trailer it in this way as a series of weapons choices.
  • Lotos8ter #16 1 year ago

@intpleeus - yeah, great point well made.
  • neoman #17 1 year ago

after such fantastic cgi trailers, we see the actual in game face of the main character and it looks bland and ugly and...why?? the animations dont look too good...the only consolation i have is that deus ex was an ugly unreal powered game for the time and it still was fantastic...heres to hoping
  • hiddenranbir #18 1 year ago

I don't get it...is this something special? Most games will alter based on where I choose to go and how I choose to play...

But no matter what method I used it all ends up the same way, which seems crazy. If I went in aggressive, surely the guy would have killed the woman quickly...that is what I was expecting, a change to the final scene...
  • imyj #19 1 year ago

How bad does it look when he has that minigun thing in his hands? The face is like ":|" and doesn't move, and the model just looks like it's rotating.
  • chudders #20 1 year ago

animations and weapon feedback is pretty poor (e.g a double vulcan cannon thing shooting the place up and the bodies just drop to the floor).

I hope they beef it up.

Edging glow you can turn on/off in options. Please read interviews before answering questions, or you get the dumbass tag permanently. Deus Ex and Skyrim are my most anticipated this year. Let's hope they do the same with the moron indicators in Thief. My baby... *smooch*
