Tried the demo, wasnt impressed at all. It looks nowhere near as good as it did in the trailers & the handling is shocking. It felt unresponsive & spongy yet somehow twitchy at the same time. Just didnt feel right at all.

I'll be giving this a miss.

Liking the demo a lot and very pleased that theres a bonnet view. Cars feel nicely weighted and powerslidey, kind of like playing a grown up Outrun 2.

Looking forward to playing this online. A lot.

Instabuy for me, and I would never have thought I'd own a NFS game.

    @mfnick

Did you only play it once? I thought that the more I played it the more it felt just right...

  • Beano #4 2 years ago

I agree - the more I played it, the better it felt. Many Burnout elements (crashes and boost-system) but handling feels more like NFS .... as it should. A shame the demo only have two races and free-roaming is not available.
  • mfnick #5 2 years ago

@Tinrib - yeah, I played both the Race & the cop event once. maybe Ido just need to give it more time...

    Then again:
    handling feels more like NFS
Ive always found the NFS games handling models "dodgy" to say the least so maybe its just not for me. I was just hoping Criterion would mix it up & create a new brilliant handling model.

mfnick remember that demos is demos and thus not the final product and often due to verification process' etc. required by MS and Sony they are build on older code and are probably not be completely representative of the final product, especially in regards to optimization.

I havn't played the demo yet though so I can't say if your right :)

It's good. Heavier steering t han Burnout but still fun to drive. Looks great too, even on SD.
Main issue is that getting best times of Cop mode is very much down to luck as well as skill...

@mfnick I think you need to try it more. There's much more skill required to drift than in Burnout, it takes a little bit of getting used to; but I'm really enjoying it now.

Btw, I tried both PS3 and 360 demoes and they look completely identical to me - no framerates issues or tearing, and is nice and smooth with AA. Just a shame it's only 30fps and not 60fps like Criterion's last game (Burnout Paradise).

  • seabassuk #9 2 years ago

Looks like a modern remake of Chase HQ :D
  • RobTheBuilder #10 2 years ago

@seabassuk Actually it does play a bit like that. That reminds me, I wish SEGA would update or VC release ABCop.
  • Gromit #11 2 years ago

    Doesn't look much cop!

It just looks like Burnout to me. I'll give the demo a go though.

Enjoyed the demo although was expecting half way through the Roadsters Race to be chased by police. I thought it'd have been good to go from being the cop chasing cars to being the one chased.

    mfnick and others,

play the race event five times and see if you like it.. my first run through i thought the steering was terrible. After my 3rd run I was loving it and trying to shave seconds off my time.

I also agree handling is 100x more similar to old NFS games than burnout. Not a bad thing in my opinion but not what i was expecting at first either.

"Shock horror!" - A NFS game which has a totally wank control scheme! I am crying out for a decent Need for Speed game. I used to love the franchise, IN PS1 DAYS. Since then its been utter shit. I bought Shift and wanted to love than until I had fits of laughter at the control scheme, so like an idiot I got excited about this and just tried the demo and am appalled yet again at the lacklustre controls. Put some decent mechanics in it and this wouldn't be a bad game - may even be worth a purchase, IF they do something about the controls but alas, I fear after all this time I am wasting my breath and hopes waiting for this much needed development

    BIG YAWN

    Its fucking burnout.

  • Grayfox32 #16 2 years ago

played the demo, the contols are terrible, feels like im steering a house on wheels, graphics are decent, the damage is average ish
    PASS

Why no wheel support, Shift is my next fav racer after GT5p with a wheel but looks like I will be giving this one a miss.
