Mirror's Edge - Teaser

9 (16 ratings)

Tom has been raving about how exciting this is ever since he went to see it at the DICE offices, hence his extremely cheery preview. Frankly, we were less than convinced when he told us that there were few guns and no dropships, but we're willing to swallow our words now. It looks beautiful.

That looks pretty cool I have to say. I like the way they used colour to show what you can and can't do with different things.

niiiiiiice, but for a game like that, the controls would have to be spot on. it was shown at a playstation events so it could be PS3 exclusive, though i doubt it becuase it's ea.

Nice look to it.

Thats how you should climb over stuff in GTA IV - allowing some awesome rooftop shenanigans.

Nice engine.

That's already one manual action more than there is in Assassin's Creed.

Anyway, looks great.

Anyone else notice the lack of character reflection on the window? In fact it doesn't even appear to be a real time reflection. Bit anal, I know, but thought worth mentioning for those that way inclined. Or are they just concerned with v-sync tearing...

This must have seemed like a great idea for a game 3 or 4 years ago when parkour was cool. My mistake, parkour was never cool!

It looks like it has potential but you can spot the dodgy sixaxis balancing sections a mile off.... nooooooooooooooo!

That does look really nice, but to me the feel of movement would have to be absolutely rock solid for this to really be fun, and I must say based on the Battlefield games DICE are not the people I'd go to for that.

Unsure if want.

The opening run really looks quite linear, almost like some kind of stunt track in a BMX or X-treme sports racer.

Can't help thinking it ought to be a 3rd person game.

This has to have acceleration/velocity based player physics or it'll just be a linear action event game a la Space Ace / Assassins Creed.

I hope the devs are getting some inspiration from Q3 Defrag.

Hope this doesn't turn out like Assassin's Creed, and actually will actually demand some degree of skill to perform the free running.

Expecting this to be N in 3D is probably a pie dream, though.

Looks nice. My only (minor) concern is that they can get a full game's worth of fun out of the mechanics. I fear that it might go all shooty and punchy in the later levels.

I love the crisp, clean visuals, makes such a difference from every other "gritty, realistic urban environment".

I'm a bit worried it might be a one trick pony, though.

Edit: Kangarootoo apparently posted exactly what I was thinking while I was still watching the video.

They're hardcore rock climbing shoes. Very soft grippy rubber soles. You can virtually run up walls wearing a pair but they'd wear out in about a week wearing them on the street.
If you freeze frame the shoe that 'paints' the red footmark, the brand on it is 'loggo'. There's an Indonesian trainer maker of that name but I doubt that's connected. You'd assume they're made up - I mean, why licence the shoes a character wears. Although it looks like you'll see them more often in this game than any other...

Looks nice... but I don't like the fact that buildings 'just so happen' to have ramps conviently placed for jumping from one roof to another and pipes in the exact location you need to climb etc etc...

I prefer the more natural approach to urban design seen in Crackdown.

I'd love to know how linear this is. I look at it and the possibilities of such a game seem endless...I just want to go flinging myself off in a random direction over rooftops, basically. I'd really appreciate knowing if this boils down to "you can see this roof and that one and they all look like you can go anywhere, but on closer inspection can only go from A to B" so I can alter my expectations.

also, +1 for shoe fetish, +1 for music appreciation. I've watched this several times and I keep coming back for more.

EDIT: and another thing, hooray for non-T&A game heroine.
