Mirror's Edge - Helicopter chase

Published 8 October, 2008 Duration 2:01

We all have our little crosses to bear at work. Grumpy colleagues, stuffy offices, the occasional non-flusher in the toilet. These are the little trials which make up our workaday lives. Luckily, our office lives have yet to involve a man firing automatic weaponry at us whilst we leap between 30 storey buildings. Thank heavens for small mercies.

ahah sick. how do you know where your going?
  • DB2k #3 3 years ago

this looks like the worst game ever surely? Certainly that helicopter gunner is the worst shot ever.

@DB2K What's the opposite of hyperbole? Whatever it is, you're the master.
  • Simian #5 3 years ago

Nice. Will probably give me motion sickness, heh :p

Helicopter pilot suffers stormtrooper-ism, sure, but I don't think that makes it the worst game ever...

looking good. Can't wait...... until the january sales and a 15 - 20 quid pick up of this
  • digiwalsh #8 3 years ago

Surely though, this game is just a frustrating exercise in trial and error? unless you know exactly where to go, how can you not expect to be hurtling to your death every 5 seconds?
  • Dizzy #9 3 years ago

I am sorry but that looked very "meh" in the gameplay departement.
  • space_ace #10 3 years ago

not jumping on conclusions, but assassin's creed was much more credible... :)
  • kinky_mong #11 3 years ago

Certainly that helicopter gunner is the worst shot ever.

I can't see the video at work but am I right in assuming the helicopter gunner is trying to hit a small moving target while onboard a constantly moving vehicle?
  • Spazzfish #12 3 years ago

Concept is good, graphics clean, but it just looks boring as hell

"I can't see the video at work but am I right in assuming the helicopter gunner is trying to hit a small moving target while onboard a constantly moving vehicle?"

Most likely using a minigun, firing 4000 to 6000 rpm. You could fire blindly at a target several miles away and still hit it.
  • space_ace #14 3 years ago

the target is very close and he has excellent line of sight. for a very long time
  • T4RG4 #15 3 years ago

Hmm, looks a bit silly to me but thats just my POV! Ultimately I cannot see myself playing this for very long as as a result is definitely on the 'wait and see, not buy for a while' pile.
  • CARL05 #16 3 years ago

I'm trying to stay optimistic but it just seems to me that this is all based on persistance and trial and error. The controls also look quite 'floaty', for example everytime a corners is turned there's no apparent leaning, same with landing from jumps where there isn't much of a reaction unless she randomly rolls, it looks fake, which is sad 'cos I thought DICE were going for realism on this one.
  • Bilbo_bobbins #17 3 years ago

this looks rubbish. The machine gunner must be blind, even one hit would certainly make this person unable to jump 300ft across buildings.... what a stupid bloody game.
  • knightmt #18 3 years ago

Ultra realism, I mean tonnes of contrast and movement.
  • Simian #19 3 years ago

There is no point judging the game upon the helicopter missing its target - its for a reason. A gameplay video showing off the protagonist being shot to shit then dying in a second wouldn't really give a sense of a helicopter chase, would it?
  • Cadence #20 3 years ago

All looks a bit sterile, maybe it plays ok though. We'll have to wait and see!
  • Buztafen #21 3 years ago

    And theres no fucking motorbikes!

Am i bothered about the people in the world who say they wont be buying this game.....Ummm nyoooooo!!!
  • CHAOS_BROON #22 3 years ago

looks a bit too sameish to be fair but still interesting..
  • Tyronne #23 3 years ago

Sad thing is , I get the idea this will play rather much like Dragons Lair in that there is but one right way of doing something and you need to press the action button at the right time otherwise dirk dies.

Thing that gets me though is as much as the character is kick ass and all that....have they actually asked a woman for directions before?

my mother in law etc etc etc
  • penhalion #24 3 years ago

Looked at this. The route taken and then thought "So I have to memorise a route through a level while being shot to hell by a helicopter". This game will definitely be a lesson in frustration. Sad really.
  • illusiondance #25 3 years ago

just what i thought Bcolter, never mind the side-gunner - the pilot is incredible at weaving between high buildings with all their associated updrafts and STILL keeps the helo steady and perfectly level.... pro
  • Darren #26 3 years ago

Looks really exciting but I can't help feeling the first-person perspective makes it harder to play rather than easier. Might have worked better in third-person but then it would be accused of being a hyperactive Prince of Persia clone. Definitely considering buying it assuming it isn't a one-trick pony...
  • ozzit #27 3 years ago

It looks amazing, but the fact that the route taken was not at all obvious bothered me too.

It occured to me that the context sensitive actions (from previews there appears to be a "high" action and a "low" one, and what move you actually perform depends purely on the obstacle) extends to which direction you head in... making this little more than an "on rails" button matching game :(

Will reserve judgement til I play it though.
  • NlNE_ETHER #28 3 years ago

    pc version looks crisp

that game would be good at the begining but after a while i would be bored with it
  • Jmog #31 3 years ago

Why are people talking about having to memorize the route? Sure, it would probably help but notice the colouring. There is always either something red og blue in the direction you are supposed to be going. It's a not-so-subtle "this way!"

    I think it works brilliantly.
  • illusiondance #32 3 years ago

well, if Dice are serious about a parkour simulator (i use the term loosely) they will give the player decent freedom to choose their own path.
its the old set-piece vs open-world debate i suppose.
  • Capt.VonHell #33 3 years ago

    @Simian lmao

Sure, the concept's a good idea. Still wanna play to see if the gameplay is all that good. Also, I don't know if it's just me but there doesn't seems to be much shooting for an FPS...
